What about the hangar Party this year! what are they going to serve for drinks? Cheap goon?
...good'ol "Lady-ina-Boat" this time!

It's pretty obvious how top heavy and out of touch they have become, with a multitude of various committees and "teams", all patting themselves on the back... arms not knowing what the legs are doing...

So Toll doesn't burn fuel?

I'm sorta fascinated by the way the papers see the fuel price as causing Toll even more pain from VB than before. Like its trucks, port operations and railway locos don't expose them to even worse!

No one is going to care what fuel does to the carriers because at $200 to the barrel the really big monsters come out to play, like out of control household debt, mass evictions, wholesale job losses and the return of soup kitchens. Work it out. $3.20 per litre for petrol and food up, public transport up,millions of people going bankrupt to lock out the debt collectors and jobs vanishing everywhere. I think I'll start stockpiling bicycles and reconditioning them. I'm going to turn misery into millions, sort of like airlines in reverse.

I can see them all now. "Communicating" the news to one another on their Blackberries in their new 60 million dollar WiFi enabled head office come "love-in lounge" sipping a Boost Juice, listening to Missy Higgins on their Ipods and bouncing on their new age ergo-ball seats.
Blaming their woes on "those greedy pilots" Yes those same greedy pilots that haven't been able to get a warm uniform for 8 years!

"C U L8r guys. Moving to da coast. 2 much stress here 4 me"

Perhaps REX will step in and buy Virgin Blue, that will solve REX's crewing problems.

The Embraer Effect

So what's up with the Embraer then?

I seem to recall some excited posts here a little while back predicting the fall of REX due the "Embraer Effect".
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

From "Virgin Blue To Operate Embraer's On Albury-Sydney Route"

Virgin to buy rex! Sh%t i hope not... Not even virgin has enough money to loose trying to turn that sinking ship around... unless they are to shut it down...
The turbo prop killer..
PAX sees PROPS

-

PAX jumps on JET
and the difference is that VB will actually have crews to operate the service....they'll be familliar with it to having operated it in formr lives with eaa or rex.

the end is near
Puff, I think things are about to get a little tougher for REX.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, anyone want to guess at how long before Virgin drop Albury then?

Crank1000, apology not required. They say that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but I still like resorting to it occasionally .

Hey Caspar, just because you're at 39,40 or 41 doesn't mean much regarding load factors. You can get the 737NG to 39, 40 or 41 with good loads. Depends on the fuel loading. Gross weight is what it's about. Put that 1 or 3 tons extra fuel on and it makes a difference. (Moreso in the 800) Plus, there's at least one other reason why you won't hear tiger up at 40 or 41......

I'd say soon probably, if they don't adjust their schedule AND pricing.

Casper (post no.37) says Tiger is doing better because it is flying at lower flight levels (implying higher weight and therefore pax loads) compared to VB and QF which he often hears at F400 & 410 (supposedly less pax etc).

FYI A320's have lower cabin diff. (due to thinner fuselage skins and structural strength I guess) than the B737's now in service with VB & QF. Therefore they are limited to F390 (according to my googling). I would therefore discount flight level selection as an indicator of profitability

Load factors

Sorry you didnt read my post and understand it-- Any Airline wether Boeings or Airbus that fly at MAX ALT will not be doing it for very long--lack of revenue
THE A320 CAN ONLY REACH MAX ALT OF 390 AT 62 TONS some 15 tons under max t.o.
We fly in the mid 30s with about 160 pax and I know the A320 has a better wing than the 800ng

Casper I am not a B738 driver so I don't know how high you can go with a "profitable" pax load. Some googling suggests arount 60T for FL400-410. Any B738 drivers care to enlighten us?

Altitude has more to do with engine rating than payload.

You would probably find that Tiger have smaller rated engines thus cruising in the lower altitudes burning less fuel as thrust and fuel flow are directly proportional.

FL???

An 800 with 180 punters and 6t will get to 38 or 39 in smooth air no problems. 160 punters 26k and 6t of juice 41 no dramas

A 700 with 144 punters 6t and 22k engines 41 from memory is not a drama. Perhaps 40 optimum

Perth common 36 then step to 38 or 39 later

Planning less than 36 vary rare. Anything less than than 38 on a bbn/mel/syd leg is below optimum

FL ???

Go west's figures stack up fairly well and as said the major differences with 700/800 are 700 with 20k v's 22 k and 800 with 24k v's 26k donks.DJ does not have too many 700 20k or 800 24k (worst case) left on the books.

Animalclub

Haven't followed the thread but pissed myself laughing with your ram/wether shot - well done.

Now have to assume you're a country lad with obvious experience so: in your younger years did you use the delightful knife/pliers combo or simply bite and pull??

Aaaaahhh - them wer's the days!

Heavy...isn't that a bit harsh? Down...but surely not out! It is only a share price dip, and they must have cash reserves to handle the lean times.
