Merged: Ozjet aborts trans-Tasman plan due takeover bid!?
Time to take a deep breath everyone.
Lets look at the facts,
a) Ozjet as it is (was), is a marginal business case, no matter how cheep the airframe is the ever rising cost of fuel is going to hurt. Full stop. If you don’t have those 4 machines running a lot there simply is not the revenue base to support it.
b) Stodartt is a dreamer, he made his fortune, had is toys (F1, airline etc) but he is also an economic realist hence the short duration of the all business class gig and short lived other adventures
c) Someone wants a 737 AOC, lets rule out the following,
Our Airline – they have one,
Alliance – its not Fokker,
APNG – no, happily using Our,
Toll – maybe but currently using Airwork for the 737F
NFI – No Frigging Idea is about right.
Norfolk are a candidate but there is no way the NFI government will come up with the cash to buy the operation. What they want is control over a stable airservice which is the life blood of the island. Not Charter machines 5.5 time zones away and an office in Melbourne.
Having worked with Ewan Wilson before his comments come as no surprise… please see wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiwi_Tr...ional_Airlines
The best line is
Ewan Wilson served as CEO and was later convicted on five counts of fraud. The Securities Commission went further and banned Wilson from ever holding a Directorship or Senior Management position, stating that “Wilson’s actions as CEO of Kiwi Air were both ethically void and morally reprobate”.
I could not put it better myself, now ask yourself how or why has he schmmoozed his way into bed with Norfolkair??? NFI QED.
So in summary the best guess was simply Toll wanting a 737 AOC that they can put freighters on and have more control at their own cost basis, which is SOP for Mr Little and his Toll Group.
Toll do not want 20 year old 732’s nor adhoc pax charter and a semi commitment to a speck in the pacific they only want an AOC, so now that Head office is being thinned out, give it a bit of time and then the Toll vultures will be back they will pick up a thin operation with flight crew ready to go, already based on the East and West coast, no cabin crew, and easy to put 733F onto the AOC
Good luck everyone, your going to need it.

I realise this maybe a long shot..... but aren't Skyairworld after a 737 AOC for their Lion Air venture??? I know they are going to be using NG's and not classics but I would have thought a 737 AOC would apply to all series.

I thought it might be Skyairworld too but they got their own AOC for the Embraer Jet quite fast and efficiently so you would assume if they wanted a 737 AOC they'd just do it themselves.
APNG & Ozjet
737-300 VH-INU is the aircraft operating for APNG BNE POM BNE - not Ozjet! APNG dropped Ozjet earlier this year after an incident on 31 Dec 2007.
See ATSB occurrence number 200707906 -
http://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/...200707906.aspx
Aircraft involved was VH-OZX - elevator tab failure.
Ozjet currently operate the services for Solair BNE HIR BNE!

*These are my views only*

Part true, you can still have a good revenue base even if you dont have 4 airframes running full time. Cost Management and yield's play a huge / important role in this. I agree rising fuel prices will hurt the running of the Boeing B737-200 aircraft
b) Stodartt is a dreamer, he made his fortune, had is toys (F1, airline etc) but he is also an economic realist hence the short duration of the all business class gig and short lived other adventures
At least he is trying...........

Our Airline - Correct couldn't see them wanting an Australian AOC unless they want the contracts currently held by Ozjet.
Alliance - Woudn't count them out just yet, remember a couple of years ago when they said "We won't operate anything but Fokker F100's" Yet they commenced op's with Fokker F50's. Some routes within Australia isnt in the range of a Fokker F100. They could however be interested in Ozjet's contracts, Norfolk, Derby Curtin run etc and replace the Boeing B737-200's with Fokker F100's. Alliance have several spare FK100's undergoing maintenance / brough several others?
APNG – They may want to operate a Boeing B737-200 by themselves and not outsource their own flying?
Toll – Could be, bring everything in house with Boeing 737-200F
My thoughts,

TOLL & the OzJet AOC
Very well said Twot. Very well thought out assumptions. However, you forget that Brown, the Minister for Self Interest (Christian) & Wilson are on a massive ego trip with NFI.
Re Alliance, they & Airwork have a common owner (in part), & he's never willing to spend a quid if he doesn't think it necessary.
Would TOLL buy OJ & flog off the passenger charter operation?; just keeping their ASA & regional routes for cargo operations (POM, HIR & DIL etc.).
Would PAE then have to compete with TOLL into HIR using the Heavylift 727?
Maybe THRidle has some foresight into logical regional development.
This is getting a bit too deep for me.

topend, they could also be adding business class to bring in a few more dollars as it's not making money at present.
Also noted in the travel section of the West recently "OZJET / INDOJET now doing 2 flights a week direct to Bali" weren't they doing 3 when it first started? or was this a misprint?

The Ozjet/Norfolk Air thing
As a resident of Norfolk Island and employed in the tourism area, it would be good to know exactly what is going on with Ozjet. There are a numbers of rumours flying around, mainly involving "Our Airline". "Our Airline" flew the route on the weekend (coincidentally we think) as a result of a mechanical problem with Norfolk Air branded 737-200. Because "Our Airline" has not been 'certified' by Qantas, 64 Qantas ticketed passengers were left in Sydney on Sunday, and some chose to get to Newcastle on Monday for that day's flight.
The Qantas ticketed passengers on Norfolk Island had to outlay to purchase a "Norfolk Air" ticket, at full price if they wanted to get to Australia that day (This involved relations of mine who had to outlay a further $880 to get home)
We have had many problems with airlines over the years and I did notice someone mention the "Norfolk Pine Curse"
FYI, Ewan Wilson has resigned from Norfolk Air and is said to be taking up a position with RyanAir in Ireland

No good will come of air services to Norfolk until the business people out there in cahoots with the government out there fund and run an airline themselves, or take a controlling interest in something like Our Airline. As a stand-alone business, air services to small islands rarely make a profit, so the benefit of the service has to be looked at in a wider context. Those who profit downstream because the service feeds their hotels and restaurants or contributes to taxes either have to subsidise it, or eventually expect to be without a service.
Air operators can only provide consistent and reliable services by taking their profits up front. Operators who do it on the cheap eventually fail or bail. My guess is Ozjet's owner wants to bail before he fails.
And if it's true that Ewen W is off to Ryan, both parties will be getting exactly what they deserve.
