A380 Maintenance - The future

As it is apparent that there are many QF Engineers that peruse these threads, i would just like to take this opportunity to congratulate all those engineers who were successful in gaining a place in the 'Team A380' maintenance organisation. I'm sure some of those successful candidates have probably posted about the A380 on these very forums!

Despite commentary appearing elsewhere to the contrary, this is clearly an exciting opportunity in the history of Qantas Engineering, with investment in new technologies and training making QE a leading MRO throughout world aviation circles. It is a thrilling opportunity for these people who are standing at the threshold of a new dawn in aviation maintenance. And of course with the Boeing 787 'Dreamliner' arriving here in approx 12 months, this represents a very dynamic period in QE's operations. It is a credit to all that despite all the competitive pressures placed upon QE, they were still considered the preferred tender for A380 maintenance. The key now is to maintain that competitive advantage in this globalised market place.

Once again, congratulations to all, and all the very best for this exciting opportunity.

Save your spin for those that don't know any better. QF is not a leading MRO for the following reasons.

1 They outsource as much as they can.
2 Operate a fleet with an average age of aircraft older than most.
3 Low staff morale. Cannot retain staff at a number of their maint bases(even apprentices).
4 An increasing number of aircraft incidents.
5 Investment in training at 20yr + lows.
6 Quickly deteriorating despatch delays.
7 Management who treat their staff with contempt.

Congratulations to those 2% of guys who have recieved training. The other 98% couldn't give a f$%k and will gladly leave if QF offer redundancy again.

No........It doesn't sound like a leading MRO to me!!

Forget the 787 QE isn't even allowed to bid for the work and Jetstar doesn't have the resources or manpower to run a chook raffle let alone the entry into service of a whole new aircraft evolution

787 Maint

Don't worry John Holland is bidding for the 787, maybe it will be their concilation prize after missing out on the A380?

A380

Insider trader,
You have many lessons to learn in life and at age 32 many more still to go. Think carefully of your opinions before stating them here, be sure you want to commit to a direction that may pay you well but render you inept and temporary.
In truth, I wish you well but I feel sympathy for both you and your ideals.

On behalf of all the guys (and ladies) who have put up with the constant work change - congrats. To the management who have forced this change upon us...please leave! It is extremely embarrassing watching you parade around, thinking you have done something positive, where it has only put QE (and the rest of the airline) back 20 years.
Every time delays go up, or something new develops that makes this 'new world' management appear in a rather negative tone, they just shift their management positions around (or open up a new position at the same level...give yourself a pat on the back for all the hard work....there there).
The productivity is through the roof (I am talking line maintenance here), staffing levels are dropping and they wonder why they cant retain staff???
Haha, I could go on forever here, but it will only take one BIG 'incident' as Corporate Qantas put it, to open their eyes and smell the coffee.
Show some backbone....invest in our futures for a change. Give us incentives to boost our morale.
