Dramatic reporting from the Media.

just seen this rubbish in News.com

"Qantas pilot collapsed in cockpit - report

THE co-pilot of a Qantas flight carrying 162 passengers to Cairns from Japan had to let go of the controls to help the pilot after he collapsed on the floor, an air safety report says.
According to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) report into the July 9 incident, the pilot in command (PIC) got up to go to the toilet before collapsing.

The plane, a Boeing 767 carrying 162 passengers, was nearly 1400km northwest of Cairns and near a tropical storm.

“The PIC handed back the control of the aircraft to the co-pilot ... and got up to the toilet,” the ATSB said.

“The co-pilot heard a bang and turned to see the PIC collapsed on the cockpit floor. There was no response from the PIC to the co-pilot’s questioning.”

The co-pilot had to let go of the controls to move the pilot away from the cockpit door so the cabin service manager could get in."

What a dangerous thing this flying lark is.... sigh.....

Selective quoting (with only a few words changed - eg. 'seat' for 'controls') has perhaps made it seem more emotive than it needed to be. However it is a pretty accurate story in line with the ATSB report.

Unfortunately it is only the absence of recommendations in the report that hints that there was no significant danger to passengers or aircraft. Not something that you can blame a newshound for ignoring or missing.
