Is Australia being used?
I have nothing against Tiger per se but they are totally owned by a foreign entity. In its home country, Tiger doesn't show the National flag on its 9V- registered aircraft.
Why then do they, and presumably permitted to do so, carry the Australian flag on its VH- registered aircraft?
Why do we in Australia allow our flag to be prostituted and be used almost as a Flag of Convenience? I wonder if Qantas owned 100% of Jetstar Asia would they be allowed to carry the Australian flag on a 9V- registered aircraft? As an alternative, why is Tiger allowed imply that it is Australian by displaying the Australian flag on its aircraft?

Ansett was 100% foreign owned, and pretended to be Australian. So was VB when it started. VH registered aircraft probably should be allowed to display the aussie flag.

Out of curiosity, do ships registered in Panama carry the Panamanian flag, or their parent company's?

Yep, they fly the flag they are registered under, although they may fly a company flag and other assorted (Navigation, distress, communication etc.) flags as the need may be, as well.

Regulatory requirement?
Sorry I don't have the time or inclination to check it out, but is it a regulatory requirement to display the Oz flag on VH reg A/C ? ? ?

Why does the use of the Australian Flag matter in aviation?
Qantas - "I still call Australia home" - prostituted itself to American investors.
I happen to think that Tiger is doing Australia (and especially Melbourne) a favour by making it possible to avoid having to use Qantas and Jetstar and hopefully we will soon be able to fly Internationally without having to go via that ***hole called Sydney.

here here Sunfish! (but you can already head off o/s without leaving SYD - get one of the MEL_DRW or MEL_PER flights and then nick off to Singa's and beyond.)
As for the paint job - picking up on CC's obs; if you think about the paint work if it were forward to aft on the starboard side then it would be written backwards wouldn't it!
However Clarrie my dear, methinks it was the engine cover that the original Q was about.

I'm positive that Singaporeans and their Government would not only be unimpressed but very vocal if Darth put the Singaporean flag on an Australian owned aircraft operating in Asia.

The spirit does not operate directly from Brisbane to where I want to go. If I want to use the spirit it is via Australia's major port including an uncomfortable bus ride (sometimes fuller than Capt Claret's wine glass) and down the sheep pens maintained by Department of Homeland (sorry, that's next week). Better to go straight from Brissy to a first world airport, walk around a very pleasant airport for two hours enjoying the orchids and shops, and a departure to the destination from the same terminal. Arrive at destination one to two hours earlier and much more refreshed. Full cost carriers need to compete on service on the ground as well as in the air.

When Tiger first got approval/announced it's intentions (1st photo) it was jumping to the Right (Coalition). Now, its up & flying, (2nd photo) its jumping to the left....see, see? It's a Goddamn conspiracy! And today, of all days!!!
