REX's media spin makes Flight International
Having looked at this weeks Flight International it is depressing to see that the media release featured elsewhere in pprune and ripped to shreds has made it to print.
Says nothing about the appalling T&C's in Australia as a counter argument at all. In fact the journalist in question has simply inserted key quotes from REX's media release and offered nothing in response or inquiry.
Would have been worth while had he mentioned the 'industry standard' pay for the rating rip off, days off down route, pay starting after you've completed line training, AWA's etc. etc., as a reason no one wants to take up this occupation..
It's 'industry standard' and greed that's causing this problem.

I hate to say it.. if it is all this bad.. with everyone leaving and management's head in the sand... why not just leave REX's fate to come to it's logical conclusion....
I understand that peoples jobs are at risk here.. but if the current climate is anything to go by... chances are there a quite a few jobs out there to absorb the staff.. if another operater hasn't stepped in to fill the market gap left by REX..
Give them enough rope and they'll hang themselves...

PPRuNE has allowed the toxic nature of the industry to be exposed , and anyone considering learning to fly for hire or reward will quickly find these pages through google doing their due diligence.
Posts like the 'keg rebuttal' demolish the industry spin. Posters like aircraft & PAF provide the perfect foil, their arguments simply highlighting the way an airline manager thinks.
Don't believe me try this search, google rex cadet pilot. Airline managers detest PPRuNE for this very reason, yet they are pretty much powerless to stop it. They no longer control the information flow. Yes mainstream media may regurgitate their press releases, being deliberately uncritical to get the next 'scoop', but clearly PPRuNE is having an significant effect on recruitment into the industry. I wonder how many careers were over before they started after reading these pages?

but there is a another factor at work - PPRuNE itself & google
I suspect that a lengthy dispute in Australia some years ago might well have had a different evolution had PPRuNe been available at the present capability in the late 80s .... and for similar reasons.
As is often said ... in war the first casualty is truth.

Repetition?
What's happening now seems to be much the same as what happened in a big aviation upheaval a long time ago. There was no pilot shortage then, only a shortage of cheap ones.
I also think I see some similarities to the Patrick Stevadore debacle.
Is it true that someone is getting pilots trained in Africa?
