That rumour has been going around for weeks now. Ive heard everything from retention bonus, ATR's, 717's, RJ's, 9 more q400's etc etc.
I'll believe when I see it. The only thing to come from QFLinks HQ was that EAA would get some q400 flying. They dont even get one on thier AOC which should have EAA rightly upset.

Apparently the rumour is, QANTAS is waiting for Virgin to get all their E-jets up and running, allow them to employ as many QLINK pilots as they can and then release the secret weapon on them, the jet crusher, the Q 400.
Word amongst the hierarchy is the E-jets won't stand a chance against the 400's.
We can only shake our heads in disbelief.

Q400 v Ejet is a very interesting question. On many (most?) routes being looked at, there's no doubt that the Q400 is more economical - SYD-CBR is the obvious one.
BUT, pax love jets, the pollies love jets. The question is whether the fact that DJ are operating an Ejet on a route which is otherwise served by a Q400 will take enough pax away from QF and onto DJ to make the difference...
Putting aside operating economics for a minute, if QF is losing pax because they are choosing to go to the jet, QF can either just let things be and hope that the higher operating costs will force DJ off the route or force fares higher OR they will respond in kind - with jets. The latter is the more likely.
I am only hypothesising, but I would be very surprised if we didn't see some 717s or other smaller jet deployed over east in the near future (ie: next year) to replace Q400s and other Dash 8s into Canberra and some of the bigger regional ports.

Oh, and that the QLink will become the full on training ground and 'link' for MPL holders into mainline..... just more misery for those already at QLink. And you thought morale was bad now.......just wait!!!!
Their asking plenty of capt's if they wanna do it, but most aren't interested (conditions crap and most so disengaged with the company they're looking for other jobs anyway) Looks like they'll all be training capt's anyway!
See youse!
T.D.I.
That rumour has been going around for weeks now.
And somehow these "big announcements" never seem to live up to expectations anyway.

Ah Buster
Now how much of that was driven by the (now retired??) import from the rat, Capt Esq TJ esq (Ret)?? So much promise but so little....?
Mind you, didn't see any AN management stand up and suggest negativity which means...??
And then there was the "white shirts" episode - another master stroke from management for soooooo many reasons!
Certainly end result killed KD in their own right which certainly wouldn't have done any good for the AN group.
Anyhow the old maxim "..those who do not read history are doomed to repeat it.." (or similar) could not, in any way, apply to the enlightened brains trust/ management of VB... surely??
After all they were the ones who sold a 5 year EBA to the pilots with 52% acceptance - JUST enough carrot but no more.
And credit, where due, to the management.
And to the pilot group...
Still reckon VB are taking on tooooo much - and the regulators should be very, very nervous and considering options should things fall apart.
Just IMHO of course

Well, at least one Jaba...its sitting here on my desk. Noice little KD CRJ model...with its cute little wingtips...awww.
It beggars belief that AN/KD management could not "sell" what was essentially an upgraded service to the twin craniumed ones...(Can't speak for the CRJ itself though...I didn't fit on one!)

The big announcement is that one of the Q400s is being painted in the new livery! Should do wonders for morale.
Cheer up everyone,
(23 sleeps to go until DJ)

Interesting to note in the latest QLINK newsletter four Captains have resigned, three from Sunstate and one from Eastern, a sign of the times.
I hope this long awaited announcement happens soon, otherwise there won't be anyone to announce it too.

Carefull boys and girls.
Too much negativity and you may be 'clicked'!
Qlink have the same problems as that other regional airline when it comes to crewing flights. About to get a whole lot worse I'll wager.
Despite the moderator's chastising, the fact remains that the dedicated professionals that fly for these once great companys are frustrated beyond belief at their respective managements inability to grasp the fundamentals of the problem.
As we speak said mangements are planning, indicating, bullsh!tting and who knows what else, in a effort to dangle carrots whilst talking about expansion!!!
They can't even crew their existing flights!
Is it any wonder that people fly off the handle.
Sorry moderator(s). End of rant. I will now crawl away and watch from the sidelines.
TID Edit
No apology necessary
Strike 1.

interesting that 26 regional jet airports will be screening baggage eff. Dec 01, if 717's were to be replaced with Q400's bag screening would not be required under the current regs, and no would pax screening. can't see the routes in the west being made into Q400 routes...
TE3,
You'd better get your butt down to Bunnings, buy some stuff and start building then eh?
At least Q400s wouldn't wreck that nice "new" runway you have in DRW!
Be a REAL good ride below FL140 at 40deg in the shade going like a bat out of hell with those nice STRAIGHT wings... No wonder people like flying in jets. Props are for boats.

You sprout off re the CRJ and KD. You should consider that the aircraft makes money evrywhere in the world, Oz was no different. You obviously flew the aircraft and have a deep understanding of it's operating economics - not.
