How did the latest EBA negotiations go boys.

Did the Evil Empire consider the 10-20 year service pay increments?

I don't think the pink cupcakes will change many minds.

The boys at the top are indeed worried - those pea brained moral bankrupts have finally figured out THERE IS A PILOT SHORTAGE. Virgin about to pillage EAA/SSA.
So now - straight from the top - a retention bonus is to be offered , just before the EBA is voted on, on a year service ratio up to 10k. ie: 10 year Capt = 10k, 9 year Capt = 9k....... and so on. At least there is light at the end of the tunnel

Angry

Missing Link those idiots wont stop people leaving until they offer a CAREER PATH to EVERYONE.
Retention bonus, my arse! Money's just one factor why people leave. We wanna know we have the ability to get promoted through the QF group and have a secure future also.
Most are sick of been treated with contempt by Cockroach and his cronies. Senior blokes leaving and not necessarily to better jobs.
Kick the NSW pilot's in the balls and stick SSA in CB. Withold the 400's from NSW as punishment for voting down the EBA. Works well for morale. Keep playing the 2 groups off against each other. Works like a charm NOT. SSA pilot's now getting a taste of the way EAA has been treated for 7+ years and it's not nice.
International Hog Driver wrote in a REX thread
Ask why 16 of 20 guys I learnt to fly with have now permanently left the industry.
Some senior Easterns captain's are so fed up theyre making plans to leave the industry all together .
Time to chuck in a bit of respect as well roach. Costs nothing and doesn't come out of yer bonus
This wont do anything except maybe get the EBA voted up. You can't polish a turd and thats what we've got on offer. The light at the end of the tunnel is a train.
See youse!

Con, are you shelling out 10 grand for the privilege of flying 5 days a week in a Dash?

The lifestyle up until 18 months ago wasn't too bad.

Now it's crap.

So our productivity is up...lifestyle is shot.....we are all getting tired...

The pay is still the same.

So, if you are going to fly 800 hrs p/a, you may as well go fly something bigger.

What?

What world do you live in that you think people should feel sorry for you for working 5 days a week or flying 800/yr?

Wynsock,

Yep you are right, would not prefer the endorsement pay thing. It is the only offer I have or have had for a longtime, and before people start going off that people like me are the problem with the industry, I have sat back and waited and waited for years. I have apps in with others, and I do meet their requirements yet nothing (airline managers must be pushing that there is a massive pilot shortage to the polies so they can import cheap labour!).

I have seen many others go forth ahead of me doing the same and are now on a reasonable wicket. Unfortunately I have to suck up my pride and have a family to support. If this gets me a start further along the process then so be it. But I have not made a "D" yet or passed through all the process, so this all could not be an issue. If a decent offer came up where I did not have to fork out the 10K then I would take that.

The thing that I was happy about was hearing that it was a good company to work for, great flying, good crews and great training and standards. But now am I wrong on these points?

All of these good qualities remain, it is a great place to work, it just doesn't pay enough to enable folks to build a solid lifestyle. The exodus is being driven by money... or the lack of it. Until they start paying more (at least 15K PA increase for all) the company will remain the Virgin/Jetstar flight school.

CON,

Don't allow yourself to get side-tracked by a few cranky posts on pprune.

You don't say what you're currently doing but its probably not RPT/Regional and this can be the most rewarding job in the world. I have been at it for over 5 years and now moving on to a major. I have had the best fun and really enjoyed my flying. Of course there are some days and some people that spoil it but comparatively speaking it doesn't even rate.

Most of the people who rant here are either running out of opportunities or would get a case of the irrits about anything. If you allow others to control your life you can feel very weak and angry.

Why don't you see if you get through all the stages and remember the interview is a two way street. If you don't get a good feeling about it.....DON'T DO IT.

Welcome to the forum Baz.

This topic of work days a week for pilots has been brought up before by those who don't fly for a living. After a relative recently scoffed at how "little" I work compared to them, I asked them to think about how they feel after just a 4 hour flight as a passenger.

There are harder jobs, I agree and if you don't mind having tired, fatigued, underpaid pilots flying you around, thats your prerogative. I just don't think the public would agree with you.

I was going to write a list of examples, but hey, that would be whinging. The shrinking queues of new recruits is speaking for me.

cheers

That hurt It's whinging not winging. Cheers, points taken by all onboard, even you Wynsock. As I saw on another post on here one guy stated he had heaps of turbine time yet no call. I dont have much but do have some jet time and endorsements and ops on several smaller jet models, yet no call from bigger operators as Wynsock mentioned. Its a strange strange industry we work in

Have been told all who have applications in will be called....Goodbye Rex, Eastern and sunnies parking aircraft very soon - can't say we didn't warn 'em

Yes the big announcment...it was released today!

A pink Q400 in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation.
The flying dog donger was in Albury today, I was not impressed, that is one ugly looking plane! (Even if it is supporting a good cause.)
