AFAP

Who is to blame for the current state of awards?

Is it a fact that the AFAP are setting an award scenario where pilots are getting payed a wage which are only marginally above the AUSTRALIAN minimum wage of $35,000 per year? Most employers are so happy to apply their (AFAP) pay scales.

If they are then how relevant are they or how can they do that?
How can employers use those figures to pay a pilot that is plainly low?
If this is true then they are simply not a Union.

They are a puppet of the employers or dumb muppets (not a good history)....

or have I missed the point...

The AFAP should hang their heads in shame!!

They have been found out.
Assisting us in adelaide sell a crap agreement to the pilots. I can say that now as I am about to walk out the door.
They are currently negotiating AWA with NJS undermining all the work that the pilots and the TWU are doing. They could not/did not achieve anything, although I used to enjoy drinking a red or two with the industrial officer. He may remember the afternoon/evening in Cairns. That pot plant is really thriving today!!

For a reputed $200K + salary(AFAP industrial officer) even us in mamagement expected a little more fight out of them.

They are going the way of the dinasour.

See guys I am really on your side. Now you can all like me because I need a new job and your negative comments will hurt my chances. Please be my friend. Lets just forget all my stuff ups and the way I have mistreated you in the past. Thats all forgotten now.

I blame all the Guys/Gals who are prepared to work for nothing.

I agree that the award is crap, however how many GA pilots are members of the AFAP or another union? 5%? less?

A union belongs to its members not the other way around.

Either pay up & speak up or stop complaining. Member numbers or lack there of (which equates to $$$$) is where the real problems lay.

Or we could all just sit back, complain about the wage until we get our "dream" jet job, then we can remind our following pilots how we all did it much tougher!

AFAP, now let me see, 1996 - Metro Command 49K, National Av Wage 42K
2007 - Metro Command 54K, National Av Wage 55K. The figures are rounded but near enough. As an aside would have to check but I think that with the last "rise" daily expenses may have finally risen back up to about the same level as '96.
AFAP - pathetic bunch of creatures, well past their use by date.

?????

Did you blokes actually believe the fairy stories the flying schools told you when you started? Do you still believe those stories??
The main problem is too many "temporary" pilots who don't care what happens as long as they can climb the ladder, because they "will be earning squillions next year"
THESE PILOTS have dragged the wages down, not the feds.
In today' climate some will do OK. But many will not, because they will not do the work, and if you do not take today's work seriously, then this indicates a character flaw which will be obvious to recruiters.

Not sure what that has to do with the 'price of fish'....
To many examples of the real wage having been flushed by the Feds...
So what if people work for less than the award. Not relevant.
It happens but that's not to allow the AFAP to let pays slide backwards while negotiating Awards and/or Pilot Agreements with operators.
As a union they fail the checkride.
No wonder the operators are happy to contact them when its time..

HAPPY, they are excited to talk to the AFAP.

bushy, the NJS boys and girls used to be represented by the AFAP in bulk. We had a dispute regarding days off away from home. 2 yrs later bugger all has happened, except a letter from the AFAP saying they have 6 years to address it. IT IS, THEY ARE A JOKE.

The AFAP is the reason the TWU will do so well.

A bit harsh I think Ren, some of the reasons the SDO thing is taking too long is the crap industrial laws and that NJS have spent so much time in industrial chaos the last 2 years that the SDO thing has gone to the back of the line.
Having said that, it does SUCK !!

My two cents ?

The ONLY reason I joined the AFAP was for the MBF scheme, and the "free legal" that went with it. I have had MANY a reason to call the union and tell them that the company was doing me wrong... and they NEVER EVER backed me up... they ALWAYS caved in to the company... even when it was WRITTEN in black and white what my entitlement was - thanks guys!
I am no longer an AFAP member.

Cunning,

I can assure you they haven't done a thing for well over twelve months.

Lawrie Copx sent a letter to the troops when we changed to the TWU advising us that we had 6 yrs before the issue had to be dealt with.
that is not service. I resigned and I am extremely happy with the TWU.

The award is a joke!

My boss loves to pay the award as it is cheap. He has to pay the office and ramp staff more then the pilots. No offence as they are great people but most of the office staff left school at year 10 and haven't spent thousands on education.

The folks in the AFAP still have their mindset and ideas based on the pilot situation from the 80's!

Bloody Feds were not gonna do a thing for me till i got up them. Then to finalise i got half of what i was owed. The feds called this a good outcome . . Anyone lookin at joining them ,just do it for the mbf cause the rest is useless .They work for the companies and not the pilots who pay the fees.
