Iwi jet??

Nelson tribe Ngati Koata and the founder of failed regional airline Origin Pacific, Robert Inglis, are working together to launch another regional airline.

Last week bankrupt American aviation specialist Patrick Weil said he planned to start a domestic budget airline flying jets by the end of the year, and it was revealed Air New Zealand was considering similar plans.

Origin Pacific was placed in receivership in September last year owing more than $21 million.

Sources close to the Ngati Koata venture say former Origin Pacific management are heavily involved, including chief financial officer Greg Rudings and chief pilot Ian Perry.

But Ngati Koata Trust chief executive Caron Paul said the airline venture had not developed since it became public in February. She also said the trust did not have money available to start an airline.

The trust did a feasibility study on an airline last year, but shelved it to focus on a biodiesel plant, Ms Paul said. Projects were reviewed quarterly.

But one source said Ngati Koata had earmarked $2 million to invest in an airline at the end of last year. Another said "there were strong moves afoot".

It is understood Mr Perry was helping to write the operating manuals needed for the airline to be certified by the Civil Aviation Authority.

CAA spokesman Bill Sommer said no application had been received.

The owner of Origin's Nelson terminal building, Honk Aviation, also confirmed in February that it had signed a heads of agreement with an interested party.

It is understood that Mr Inglis and Mr Rudings want to stay in the background till well after the airline has begun flying.

The airline could use three former Origin Pacific 19-seat Jetstream 31 aircraft owned by Mr Inglis. Significant spending would be needed to make two of the aircraft airworthy, including new engines and propellers, a source said. The third had been stripped for parts.

Pacific Turbines Brisbane, which owns two of the engines on the twin-engine fleet, could also be considering investing in the company in a bid to recoup losses from the Origin collapse. Pacific Turbines sales and marketing director Stephen Smith would not comment.

Two larger 29-seat J41 aircraft previously leased by Origin had been sold to an executive aircraft operator in the United States.

Inglis, Rudlings and Pirie.

The axis of evil combine in another great aviation disaster. Cant wait to see it.

Anybody here know how that chap from blenhiem got on with his theft charge, against Origin Pacific? You know the one where all the money was suposed to be held in a trust account untill the airline had flown the passengers? In theory all the pasengers that had paid in advance for travel would have recevied a refund no problem, as that money was untouchable, right? I think where there was supposed to be many thousands in the trust account able to be refunded to passengers there was somewhere in the order of $81. Perhaps before you get involved with another airline you would like to pay your staff from the last one Robert? Perhaps you could refund the passengers money that you stole from them Robert? Robert where are you?

The Opac crew fly again?
RI retains a substantial personal wealth to this day. Yet he leaves a bumbling legacy of financial ruin for his company's stakeholders at every level possible. The hundreds of travellers whose trust fund somehow evaporated are owed an insignificant pittance in comparison to the employees and suppliers whose financial lives he so carelessly ran aground.

The Companies Act 1993 is quite clear on a Director's obligations to his stakeholders.

Without propagating mere conjecture, here are the plain facts. On a Thursday night, he called an all staff meeting and declared everyone laid off effective immediately. Your jobs won't be here in the morning. Through a pathetic display of crocodile tears he explained that every last bean of money that wasn't his to touch in the first place had been blown. No salary payments, no annual leave, no redundancies, and effective immediately with no notice.

It hardly requires an LLB to form your own opinion of compliance or lack thereof with the following:

http://www.companies.govt.nz/cms/you...-as-a-director

And yet here he is again, grubby little hands outstretched in front, implicitly asking that the public of New Zealand open their wallets once more.

Investors, employees.
Passengers, suppliers.

Involvement in any capacity is pure madness.

Well It looks like something is in the pipeline:

Ngati Koata to operate charter and freight service

Nelson iwi Ngati Koata has become New Zealand's first Maori tribe to venture into the airline industry.
Ngati Koata Trust announced on Tuesday its plans to operate a Nelson-based charter and freight airline service.
The airline will be 100 percent owned by the trust, which will lease two 18-seat Jetstream 31 aircraft from Inglis Aircraft Ltd.
The planes formed part of the fleet of former Nelson service Origin Pacific Airways, which collapsed last year.
Trust chairman Roma Hippolite said the move reflected the trust's plans to diversify. It had considered but rejected a regional passenger service.
"This will be a modest little operation. We have spent quite a lot of time working out how feasible this would be. It's a modest step for the people of Ngati Koata into the tourism industry."
Mr Hippolite said the existing infrastructure and facilities in Nelson made the opportunity attractive.
The terminal left vacant by Origin Pacific was an option being considered, but not necessarily the only one, trust chief executive Caron Paul said.
Mrs Paul declined to comment on what the trust had spent on setting up the business, other than to say it had sufficient capital to fund a modest charter airline. She will initially be responsible for running the airline, which has yet to be named.
The trust was working on a marketing and branding plan, "but you can expect to see a Maori logo", Mr Hippolite said.
The airline would look at employing between seven and 10 people.
Mr Hippolite said they were aware of the high demand from regional businesses for such a service, although they had yet to approach any firms.
"We will be doing that soon. We had to have something first for them to look at.
"Nelson is very dependent on air transport, so we believe travellers and businesses will welcome more options."
Air Nelson, which picked up freight business after Origin's demise, was unfazed by the announcement.
"At the end of the day, it's up to them to run their own race," Air Nelson general manager John Hambleton said on Tuesday.
Mrs Paul said a start-up date was dependent on aircraft certification through the Civil Aviation Authority, and the documents were now in the final stage of processing.
Inglis Aircraft owner Robert Inglis said the aircraft leased to Ngati Koata required some work. He had contracted Nelson firm Repaircraft, an existing business bought by former Origin aircraft engineers, to service the aircraft.
Mr Inglis said while he wouldn't be directly involved in the new airline, "I'm always keen to see competition in the region, and will remain vocal in trying to bring about change".
"I guess I should never say never, but at the moment there are more interesting things to focus on. I wish Ngati Koata every success and I'm happy to assist them with advice if required," he said.
Mrs Paul said they were looking forward to building business opportunities with others in the region.
"Nelson is the seafood capital of New Zealand and there's no one offering a live freight service out of here. There are many businesses here that could benefit from such a service."
Ngati Koata Trust is the legal entity representing more than 5000 iwi members. It has a variety of business interests and operates a health and social services arm.
It has ventured into custom-made furniture, a boat repair business, and manufacturing and retailing of crafts through Koata Krafts Ltd. In the trust's 2005-06 annual report, asset holding company Koata Ltd held $1 million worth of fishing quota, which is leased out. It also recently announced plans for a new multimillion-dollar business, making and selling biodiesel to local motorists, the fishing industry and manufacturers.
