Talking Air NZ to hire?

Looks like Air NZ are about to hire again, after recently announcing a surplus of pilots.

Those on yes letters have been called in for follow up interview.

777 courses in May, 777 & 747 courses in june & july and 733 course in Sept.

Rumoured to require 42+ S/O's and subsequent 733 F/O's with only about 27 on yes letters with the odd one or two gone to other carriers already.

Interesting to see how it pans out. Those not in a link carrier of the group will find it a bit easier than those within.....

Tiger,

Best you read further and there are a number of other threads about this. You will find out that Air NZ has never said it was surplus of pilots: ONLY that the pilot numbers were incorrect on specific fleets, due to the B767 fleet downsizing from 11 to 4 aircraft and the training being completed for the B777 introduction. The LWOP option was to preclude downtraining if possible.

The age limit for PinC to 65 has also caused an imbalance within fleet ranks.

The possible employment of more pilots is due to expansion on the Hong Kong and Shanghi routes planned for the winter timetable in Nov.

Air NZ is a listed company, not a state run company. The NZ government owns a large packet of its shares (74% approx) and does not have any board members, nor any control of the board.

The State has not bought any more shares since the 2002 debarcle, and it does not supply it with cash!

Interesting how you draw that conclusion there S2k, I asked an interveiwer about it and he said it's simply not the case.

You seem to know a lot about these courses, especially considering none have been advertised.... Carefull not to give false hope. Remember it hasn't actually happened till your sitting in it going "Man this goes like a cut cat"

Not saying it won't happen but courses ain't courses untill the list is on the wall.

I'd think that they would deny it as it is a slightly illegal practice, but from observing events over the last 3 years, you have to wonder how those interviewed in the last couple of groups, that were'nt part of the AirNZ group already, got starts within a month of being interviewed. But those within the group who were interviewed nearly 2 years ago are still waiting and yet on last friday they were asked "hyperthetically" how they would feel about being bypassed again as they recruit strategically from the link groups.

I stand to be corrected but from my point of view it happens.

They are carefull not to "clean out" a base but apart from that, other factors are used in how people are started after the interveiw. Not quite first in first served i'm afraid.

And then there's the collusion between the carriers "... please don't interview our guys, we're going to lose to many, but if you have to, take some junior F/O's..."

From a very reliable source yesterday I heard that ANZ need 35 s/o's.
The LWOP that was offered to the 767 drivers was oversubscribed and the company have a lot more pilots interested from other fleets ( 30 from the A320 alone ).

Good luck if on a yes letter and update if not !!

What is the best way to apply to Air NZ? Do they still post forms out or do they have a web based application now?

BBD you will find almost all you need to know here:

http://airnz.co.nz/aboutus/careers/c...ils/pilots.htm

I think those on yes letters should fill any near term requirements despite one or two of them trying to screw their own chances by acting like monkeys!
A word of advice... You never know when you are being watched!!!

Below MDA
Thanks for the response. I have emailed Air NZ at that address in the past and got no response. I will however try again.

I am intrigued by your comments about being watched. Are you able to expand on this? Inparticular were you referring to me or pilots in general.

Does anyone have the ANZ application letter?

I have also emailed several times and get no answer. Does someone have the letter they could email me or a better way to contact recruitment?

Thanks

BBD It' just you being watched!

Just because you are on a yes letter doesn't mean Air NZ won't notice any stupid behavior. One person has already done their best to get themselves out of a job!

Perhaps Astina is being watched as well. Air NZ may not send applications out to those under surveilence. I have been wondering what the guys on the black suits and dark sunnies have doing following me around all day?

Air NZ pilots line up for overseas bucks

Air New Zealand is famous for the lengths it goes to cut costs – but this time the staff involved aren’t complaining.

Pilots are flocking to sign up for a scheme that will see them lent to other airlines for two to three years, and save the national carrier millions.
Air New Zealand confirmed that the offer, which is available to first officers and captains on the Boeing 767 fleet, has had no shortage of takers.

To correct an oversupply of pilots and avoid “downtraining” – demoting pilots to a lower rank and reducing their salaries – the airline has called for volunteers to take two or three years’ leave without pay, giving them the chance to work for airlines such as Emirates that offer substantially higher – and tax free – salaries. Getting rid of the 35 salaries will save Air New Zealand millions, especially if the offer is popular among long-serving captains as well as lower-ranked first officers.

A captain at Air New Zealand earns $150,000-200,000, while first officer salaries range from $95, 000 to $123,000. Depending on who signs up, Air New Zealand could easily save more than $5 million across the 35
roles. The airline said the overstaffing was due to the need to train pilots for the introduction of a 777 fleet, which will slowly replace 767s.

The problem has been exacerbated by the removal of compulsory retirement for pilots at 65. The pilots who are chosen for the 35 slots will remain employees of Air New Zealand during their period of leave without pay.
They will also retain their seniority ranks, meaning when they come back, they will be on the same rung of the ladder as when they left.
Promotion through pilot ranks at Air New Zealand depends entirely on length of service with the company, and new pilots can be promoted only when higher-placed pilots leave or retire.
