Virgin Blue flight cancellations.

How many flights this weekend will end up cancelled due to the lack of crews??
Last weekends dramas will be hard to beat, but I'm sure BG has his finger on the pulse with all the latest developments with regard to the way pilots are feeling these days!!!!

Received an email from a mate of mine last week and he says the VB troops are not happy campers at present.

Hopefully the CC will see their proposed EBA for what it is and vote accordingly..............then management will once again realise how they could get it so wrong not once but twice!!

Whats causing this? Sick Days? Lack of resources (ie: not enough hiring)? A mass exodeus of pilots? A work to rule?
Cheers, HH.

Too many whizz kids in VB...they've cocked it right up. Reap the whirlwind.

If they are short of crew, it's not because there is a lack of suitable candidates.
I know plenty of guys with plenty of command turboprop time and 4-6000hrs under their belt that have never even had so much as a nibble on their application.

Go figure.

Jet_A_Knight

How many do you think would accept the cr@p money on offer for the E jets if they did get a nibble?

It has very little to do with the quality of candidate, the most limiting factor being managements lack of awareness of the impending staffing shortfall. Driven largely by their mistaken belief in the proposed EBA which incidentaly was voted down by a resounding 87%!!
Now they find that even though they can recruit the numbers required, the training on Sim's has been snapped up by ever expanding middle east and far east operators.
Added to this the completely dis-engaged tech crews have been resigning in ever increasing numbers(12 in 10 days).
Not a very pleasant place to be so I've heard.

Apparently the CP has offered $1000/day callout fee for tech crew who work on RDO's or grey days.

Not sure if there is any link here but I did four sectors last week on DJ over various sectors and times of day - not one PA from the sharp end. This is the first time on any sector I have done with them over the last six years that there hasn't been a friendly PA.
