Roxy Chick 1989

I offered to share a full DVD coverage for 18th March at post #523 on the Senate Inquiry thread with other Pprune members, but no one took up the offer. I was about to destroy it. It is the full senate coverage of 4 hours in .avi format. If you are willing to PM me with your address, I'll send it to 'Roxy Chick 1989' as a one off. It was shown on FOXTEL (APAC channel). I do not know whether the sitting on 31 March will be shown on FOXTEL or not.

Just wait to see the great unwashed masses flock off the street to this scheme, even with its 120k plus price tag!
I remember back in 1990 being told that the upcoming Ansett Pilot Cadetship scheme was going to cost $93000 - $98000. So $120K doesn't sound too outrageous.

about that Asian expansion..

From todays Australian:

Rising oil costs on the horizon in China boom | The Australian

My bolding..

China Eastern Airlines has dropped American Airlines as a code-share partner in favour of Delta Air Lines. The Chinese will join the Delta-led SkyTeam global alliance later this year after rebuffing rival Oneworld, which includes Qantas.
Interesting..

When they do start it will be Ejet only for external recruitment, but don't expect anything until late this year or early 2012.

GAFA whats your sources with your ;ast post? you flight crew with VB? understand that ejet fos cant transfer to 737 fos as per eba as it has be a rank move for the first move (fo to capt) then the 2nd move can be of same rank but different aircraft type. Also new 737s will be delivered so some new recruits will have to go straight onto them. also the 50g cost to company transfering the ejet fo to the 737 due to endorsement being paid by company and about 20g lost in revenue??? any of what im saying got truth to it? just regurgitating other ppls opinions.

cheers Mr Hat. So the career path in virgin looks like this now.

EJET FO --> 737 FO / A330 FO ---> 737 CAPT / A330 CAPT

EJET FO ---> EJET CAPT ---> A330 CAPT / 737 CAPT

no more starting on a 6 figure salary for the newbies...

Mr Hat has summed it up perfectly.

Most of the new 737 are replacing the older -700’s and the -800 (VO rego block) that are coming of lease, all bar 2 -700’s are leased. The increase (small) in 737 numbers doesn’t kick in until late 2012.

There are a handful of Ejet pilots who would be willing to take a command on the ATR for a period of time and the company has been made aware of this, but have been very slow in acting on it. Meanwhile Skywest continues to interview and offer positions, so I can’t see ATR commands for anyone at DJ.

Fleet pay will play a big part in the career path for current and new FO’s. Most current Ejet FO’s (and Capt’s) would be happy to stay on it if Fleet pay was introduced.

JB has said the growth the company has seen over the last 10 years will not happen again so the time to command will increase dramatically hence the need to recruit new FO’s will be reduced. At the senate meetings he even stated that the 777 numbers at V will not increase. The cadet programme will kick off next year with the first of the cadets going on line late 2012 or early 2013.

Last intake onto B737 is April 2011.
Incorrect as far as I know. April 737 courses were both cancelled. Last 737 course started on 7th Feb.

All else seems accurate to other info received. Sources are VB Union rep and FO's on both types.

Australian Airline Virgin Blue has confirmed the company has signed an agreement with Boeing to supply up to 105 new 737 aircraft from 2011 through 2017

So approx 30 more 737s over 6 years, which makes on average 5 additional 737s a year, so a constant stream of command upgrades... yeah?

Where did you find the quote for 105 aircraft?

Figures from inside say approx 50 aircraft on order to replace older off lease aircraft (about 30-35 aircraft) with a net increase around 15 aircraft from 2012/2013. And this was before the A330 entered the picture so if the A330 fleet grows to the 10-15 has rumoured then extra 737 may not be needed.

So basically there will be no further DE onto the 737, any future FO requirements will come from Ejet FO ranks. So if you want to fly for Virgin Blue, you will spend about 2 years in the right seat of the Ejet and after that you will be able to bid for a 737 or 330 FO slot.

Mr Hat,

I think the plan is to replace all the -700's with -800's and make use of the 190 on the routes to big for the -800.

Have a look at what JB said in the half yearly report, "He doesn't want to be the biggest airline but the best". That should give you an idea about the fleet size.

In this business I'd take any predictions with a grain of salt. 2008 was a good lesson in how things can change very rapidly. "No commands for ages!" That's what I recall hearing at the time.

scamp damp there was a320 but the typo got edited to a330...

anyway back to virgin blue recuitment freeze,

- no courses running till late in the year, if at all this year

- will be on the E190

- raising oil prices slowing down expansion plans

so no shortcuts for young aspiring pilots, just keep putting along and watch your mates in other industries get the new 4wds and girlfriends.
