Vale John Hugh Knight
Most of you good PPRuNers would have never been aware of him. John worked for many post war years with TAA first as a LAME at Essendon on engines.
In later years he moved to the Accountancy area of TN and was generally in charge of allowances for aircrew including those posted overseas on the wet leases they did then to airlines such as Iran Air. I believe TBH was the 727-276 involved but stand to be corrected.
Known as Long John by his Air Force mates, he departed this world mid afternoon today after a relatively short illness at age 81.
It was his footsteps I followed into this industry we hate and love at the same time. He is the reason I was TAA Loco before my more recent incarnation.
He was my Dad.
Clear Port.

Our sincere condolences to a fellow aviator, peace, clear skies and happy landings.
Our thoughts are with you and your family as a bygone age continues to slip by.
You can be sure he had the best of the Golden Age.

No Captain
I had no siblings. One look at me and they gave up sex.
Woomera - thanks mate.
It was indeed the Golden Age he takes to his rest, and why I am such a whiner about the alleged Brave New World.

Condolences
EWL,
My sincere condolences on your loss.
I'm sure he had a wonderful and interesting life, especially having to contend with a gem such as yourself.

EWL,
My deepest condolences. Losing a parent is always a very sad time and a time for reflection and reminiscing. Rejoice in the good memories and learn from any not-so-good. Celebrate his life and his achievements.
Perhaps you are the only offspring because your parents considered they got it right the first time. Just my spin...
Somehow I feel sure that your dad was proud of you. What more could a father ask?
Sincere sympathy.

Thanks for the kind thoughts all.
The family is back home in DPO (and HBA for the boys at Uni) now.
The service went off as well as things could and a good number of his TAA mates as well as BCOF and RAAF buddies attending. He was lowered out of sight to the strains of Glen Miller - a strangely perfect choice.
The Waverley RSL got a hell of a thrash afterwards and I can highly commend that place (just next to the Glen Waverley railway station) on every possible level.
Thanks again good people.
Now - back to a million emails and Queues!!!
Best regards
EWL
