Its about time the Board took stock of where Dixon and Co are taking this airline and acted.
Fuel price increases are a problem for every airline, not just qantas. Its what you do about it that counts. This bloke got by on a lot of luck in the early part of his tenure. The luck has run out and now the times require managment skills.
Right on target, King. Since privatisation, both JBT and GD have had luck totally on their side. Were it not for the collapse of Ansett, the tough times would have visited Qantas a lot earlier than they did. EXCO were running scared at the prospect of Ansett, Virgin Blue and Impulse yapping at Qantas's heels and eroding its domestic market share. Luckily for them, AN went down, McGowan was happy to grab the money while it was on offer and DJ were still developing while all along Qantas's cup overrunneth. Also since privatisation, some hard decisions have not been taken and only now has the penny dropped. Sadly, it may be too late.

On another note, for how much longer can the Board allow drain on profits and cashflow that Jetstar Asia represents? EXCO does not seem to allow losses of this magnitude from Australian operations so why do they tolerate them from uts Asia offshoot? They soon shut down AO when it failed to deliver what it was supposed to promise.

Right on BAL.
Could it be "someones" huge ego that allows Jetstar Asia to keep bleeding the group?
And what if the "true" costs of JQ were to appear on the balance sheet instead of the creative accounting that sees mainline subsidising these "experiments" left right and centre.
Like many posters have said before, I have heard nothing but negative comments regarding Jetstar from the general public.
Friends who previously flew QF try Jetstar and are so p*ss*d off where do they go? Virgin! Wake up before it's too late QF !!!!!!!!

I believe this is all a smoke screen to move everything over to Jetstar. QF mainline has been bagged by management as being to expensive etc yet they are more than happy for Jetstar to jump on the QF gravy train with access to lounges and FFlyer points, training facilities etc. QF pilots are also doing more check and training than Jetstar pilots.

All these are costs that will add up and make Jetstar look more effiecient when in reality QF is actually subsidising the Jetstar operation. The cost of fuel will be the excuse why Jetstar are subcontracting 787's to QF in the near future and eventually QF will just become a brand name with no staff and labour supplied by various companies.

looks like the last heavy maint b737 line at tulla- their luck has just run out-that line will close down and the maint moved to air new zealand at their christchurch base- why else would they spend 5 mil on a brand new b737 heavy maint dock there. -it would be interesting to see how the govt re-acts to this with the b737 wedgetail aew and p-8 (b737) mma aircraft expected to be orderd and maintained here. with the last remaining skill base gone. -
blind cost cutting at its best.
