It is unlikely that any permanent damage will occur in this situation - although during the event a person might become unconscious but would recover quickly when the aircraft descended to lower altitudes.

Well Mr McGoo, I think you have just found the next area of cost cutting for the airline industry. If we can all survive without the need for supplementary oxygen and then fully recover I guess we really don't need the PSU oxygen unit and drop down masks.

Didn't Jetstar say that he could travel with a carer/guardian?

It doesn't make commercial sense to refuse carriage of anyone when there's a chance to gain another passenger. Cynical, I know.

Try sending an unaccompanied minor on Jetstar.

He wouldn't have been unaccompanied if he had a carer/guardian.

Therefore, Jetstar do discriminate against people of a certain age, whereas others don't.

I really didn't think that my light-hearted remark would generate such a protracted response.

I've been called pedantic before!! I still want to argue with you - but it's only about the definitions and interpretations of words... I tend to take the meanings of words literally.

Anyway - I've plenty of time on my hands and this sort of things helps stop the onset of old timers (I can't spell that al...... disease!) disease.
