Aircraft down Cairns
Early notification of plane down in the Koah area (Cairns). Aircraft down only one patient involved and he walked to service station - injuries appear to be minor.

Amazing story...
From what I understand, single engine cessna reported engine trouble.
Landed on the highway- somehow managed to avoid powerlines and an on-coming truck.
Pilot and truck driver shaken, but pretty much unharmed.
Aircraft ended up just off to the side of the highway- with some damage to wing.
Great result- great effort.

highway landing
What I got from the local radio:
Cessna 207, IFR from Mareeba to Cairns last night.
Lucky guy with almost full moon and a truck showing the Highway in a pitchbalck environment!
Quote from the truck driver: I need a clean pair of pants....

Must have been a nice 207 - being IFR and all...
Not sure I'd feel too safe in one though, needs a few more engines. A Buffalo would do a far more superior job.
Well done to the pilot, great work.
Cheers
Tiger.

VH-UBE reported problems to Cairns ATC at 18:30 and landed about 18:35 (source: Cairns Post). Local sunset is 17:55 local time so it was already pretty dark. If not IFR then night VFR?

The Aircraft is night VFR. The company cross hiring the aircraft failed to notify the owner about the accident for two day's and left the aeroplane at the site on the highway unattended over night.

I happen to know the pilot very well after flying with him recently in Melbourne. A good safe operator and from speaking with him this morning seems like a job well done...
