Been going on for yonks. Picked old man up from QF at Tulla in about '98. QF very good in having chair waiting at gate but got pulled up exiting terminal doors - go no further is the order. To short term park get car drive round and park in the outer of how many lanes to be told by gestapo you cant park here, and the p***k had the book out ready to write a ticket if I left to collect the old fella from the terminal. Dont get me started - money grubbing SOB's.

Rant over - I think

Bring back the old days when we had porters outside the terminal who would do anything for a quid/buck. They usually had a good sense of humour and joked with the Little OL in the wheelchairs. The wheelchairs got brought back to the terminal as well!!!

The fact that wheelchairs and the wheelchair policy gets abused,is no reason to deny anybody the use of those facilities.I,m not aware of OZ,,s disabilities act,but it is surley not designed to stop those in need of receiving just treatment. The Quantas spokesperson stated that the policy was/is supposed to be flexible, thats a very loose term indeed. The outfit I fly for contracts a company to provide a wheelchair service and that includes(within reason and being flexible)transportation to any part of the airport.Wheelchairs are "ordered at time of checkin...works very well from what I,m told.....PB

Un responsive to disabled customer requirements?
Un feeling?
Un caring?
Under-developed, intellectually?
Un forgiven?
Under fire?

I have seen people with power chairs objectified in the case that their batteries might be dangerous - which they are not.
According to my DG folder yes they are, and need to be seperated before flight.

QF commish allows old dear to take wheelchair to carpark, old dear looses control of said wheelchair on carpark down ramp and ends up on bonnet of a bogan jetstar pax's XD falcon.

Who wears that one ?

I bet there would be some smart arsed solicitor who would try and pin it on QF. They have deeper pockets than Bevan who just spent most of his money in Noosa and the rest on parking.

Topper sorry but you are being ridiculous and statements like that then get heard by simpletons who believe it to be fact and we end up with no-one getting off their arses for anyone else ever.

If QF would be liable in those circumstances then surely they could then just sue God?

My point is - thats the way companies (especially QF) think these days ! - Its all about the fear of litigation (real or imagined fear).

I have absolutely no idea of the QF public liability insurance policy but I would hazard a guess that it would not extend to "non QF" areas (ie the SACL car park) nor situations where employees have acted outisde some procedure that is no doubt printed in some manual somewhere.

You make my point exactly. You think that because it's in the manual that it must be true. Batteries in electric wheel chairs are not dangerous - I have looked at a lot of them as they are loaded - they are all just SLAB's that are used and mounted in the manner that they were designed for. No more dangerous than the battery on your mobile telephone in your pocket or the battery on your laptop - yet you aren't required to disconnect those, so why make it hard on disabled ppl when you don't do the same for able bodied ppl?
