QF Q400 QLD routes revealed
BN-CB is an interesting one!
QantasLink Announces Q400 Queensland Route Network Latest News
Brisbane, 12 January 2006
The Qantas Group's regional subsidiary QantasLink will increase its Queensland capacity by 18 per cent as its new Bombardier Q400 aircraft come into service over the coming months.
Qantas Executive General Manager Regional Airlines Narendra Kumar said the first of the new aircraft arrived in Brisbane this week, in preparation for entry into service on 26 February*.
"We are dedicating five of QantasLink's total order of seven new Q400s to Queensland," Mr Kumar said.
He said the new 72-seat Bombardier Q400, which was both larger and faster than the airline's current Dash 8 fleet, would enable QantasLink to provide more than 240,000 additional seats each year into 12 Queensland ports.
He said the new Q400s would operate between:
* Brisbane and Rockhampton - increasing seats by 16 per cent;
* Brisbane and Gladstone - increasing seats by 22 per cent;
* Brisbane and Emerald - increasing seats by 37 per cent;
* Rockhampton and Mackay - increasing seats by 24 per cent;
* Mackay and Townsville - increasing seats by 26 per cent; and
* Townsville and Cairns - increasing seats by 21 per cent.
"Flying the Bombardier Q400 on some of the services on these routes also gives us the flexibility to redirect other capacity.
"For example, we will be able to operate 50-seat Dash 8-Q300 aircraft alongside our 36-seat Dash 8 aircraft on services to Bundaberg, Longreach, Roma and Charleville, to provide more seats," Mr Kumar said.
"In addition to boosting capacity by upgrading aircraft, QantasLink will also add an extra flight to Weipa and Roma," he said.
Mr Kumar said QantasLink had already announced new double-daily Q400 return services between Brisbane and Mackay, which would commence from April 2006.
"Tourism and business sectors across Queensland will benefit from the additional capacity and the introduction of the Bombardier Q400 on key routes at peak demand times."
Mr Kumar said QantasLink would also operate a daily direct Q400 service between Brisbane and Canberra from April 2006, adding more than 1,000 extra seats on the route each week for the Qantas Group.
"The QantasLink flight will depart Canberra at 3.45 pm which is timed to connect with flights to Queensland ports beyond Brisbane.
"QantasLink is the first airline in the Southern Hemisphere to offer customers this new aircraft type," Mr Kumar said.
"We have made a significant investment in the Bombardier Q400 aircraft, with seven scheduled for delivery by July 2006 and purchase rights and options over an additional 10 aircraft."
Mr Kumar said the Bombardier Q400 featured jet-like speed with new engine and propeller systems.
"Flying at 360 knots, this aircraft reduces flight times compared to our current services, giving us the potential to operate additional frequencies on some sectors," he said.
"This $200 million investment in new aircraft is a reflection of the Qantas Group's commitment to regional Australia.

Will the D8 crew be getting the $120k/$75k pay as well?

Sunnies' pragmatism is a whole lot more understandable than Eastern's belligerence. Now they get to play with five new aircraft and EEA are still in the wilderness. Great machine for the regional job. Enjoy the ride guys and gals in sunny qld (and to ports further south!).

I am a total outsider to these issues but it occurs to me that if QF get such a better deal out of Sunstate, why not set up a CBR base (long overdue anyway) and operate the last 2 on SYD-CBR as a Sunstate operation? The Oz today states that the last 2 are earmarked primarily for this route.

Re: QF Q400 QLD routes revealed
Was over in the UK recently and flew in a Flybe -400.
As a passenger there is nothing quiet about this aircraft, quite the nosiest cabin I have flown in and a very uncomfortable flight indeed and that was with the active noise on!
Talking with the hosties after the flight they were very uncomplimentary about the -400 all down to the noise. How long before the unions here start having issues on the OHS route?

In fact, they should feel so priveliged to get their new toys, maybe they should fly them for the same pay as the 300s.
But hang on, why stop there. Let's get them to crew Jet* international as well for the same rates. Then they'd get to play with even more new toys. How lucky would they be then? Where do I sign up?

It's well known that Eastern has been belligerant toward its pilots for some years. If you had seen the document which was full of errors you would understand why it was rejected. Management were rank amateurs to say the least. A 12 year old could've written a better document.
You have little knowledge of EAA matters Hellsbells. As Kumar would say "Thank you, come again".
You mean longer and bumpier...
$120k. What, a pay drop?!

Capt. Bloggs you should ask the people who gave you a 1% pay cut and a $15,000 bill, they must have all the answers in the bottom draw.

The big Q is a gas hungry SOB too, especially when compared to the ATR72-212 and for the same number of seats. Get that with 5000 a side v 2500!
God help us if ANZ goes mad with the Bombardier order and gets them to replace the ATR!
Make more sense to go down a Bomardier CRJ700/900 path woudn't it? Now there's a rumour!!!
And not one that aint been heard discussed once or thrice in crew rooms of late! Kinda makes sense with Bomb-ies tie ups with Boing....

They can 'ave 'em
Almost 75% of EAA pilots who voted against the EBA don't care, Deafstar. They believe the rate offered was not realistic. 7% for a 100% increase in capacity? Sums don't quite add up, do they?
The company really thinks that the 400s are real morale boosters Truth is the troops couldn't give a sh!t
Morale (or as they call it, ENGAGEMENT) is at an all time low. They wouldn't know or care because theyve got their heads so far up their ar$es in the Art Gallery you'd need a proctologist to find it.

"Eastern and Sunstate amalgamation anyone ...in a few years?"
Do you mean like the Southern/Eastern amalgamation of a couple of years ago.
Surely QF are not that clever to realise taking 3 AOC's and 3 infrastructures and making them only 2, then doing it again and making it only 1 would make economic and management sense.
Nah, they are not that clever.
tipsy

Comparing a Q400 to a ATR72 is not quite fair except at short sector lengths - the Q4 and Saab 2000 are high speed t/ps - Bombardier claims 360 knots for the Q4. I suppose if you stuck PW127s on a Q400 it might be quieter and less fuel hungry but it would do 277 knots, like an ATR 72-200 does.
