Ratpoison, QF has lived off the fat of the land for far too long. Open the skies and get rid of the Red Rat, iits managers want to change it into a meaningless brand name anyway with maintenance done in China and crew the aircraft with the cheapest available people.
If I was in Government, I'd tell QF that if any work goes to China, then its open skies for Australia immediately.

ratpoison you have a very good point. casa is these days so politicially correct they are too scared to go anywhere near emirates or any other foreign carrier. its easy to critisise the local rat but bear in mind the howard government has backstabbed QF on many occassions. emirates and its subsidised operations are beyond any meaningfull accountability (so is singapore airlines, malaysian). this is the only part of the world where every tom,dick and harry from anywhere can set up a domestic and international airline. singapore has looked at an oz domestic operation ,too hard. they also have the rights to fly the tasman but not interested as they cant see making money on it) emirates loosing money hand over fist on the tasman (who cares they just want exposure). its easy to critisie any oz or nz airline but its not an even playing field. why doesn't the NZ competition commission and the ACCC have a look at unfair competition on the transtasman market. easy answer, the political masters won't have it.

to fox3snapshot. if you spend the money on a flexfare you get points on j*. you sound like the typicial whinger these days, who wants everything(qf club, plenty of booze, free internet and so on), but doesn't want to pay for anything. pay the money get the service and the rest.

as i understand it two sin businessman have the major investment(maybe some of temasek (sin government) money is there. not quit sure. all tehy are interested is in cherry picking( which airline isn't).

Dont get too comfy in the Qantas club, I have seen the 0 tolerence policy nail late boarders from the club and have left without them... quite smuggly too. Like it or lump it buddy.
Nothing better than seeing a pompous angry faced club member used to delaying flights for 1 last bevy get their chance to slink back to their bevy....

Who said I wanted a flippin flex fare!!!??? You have no choice mate, "Qantas" don't fly the route anymore!!! I would always pay a bit more to get the service...if it was provided!
And what choice are the Territorians going to have when Qantas dump their services to Darwin???

You wouldn't happen to be one of those types that jumps up and down, and yells to all and sundry, when you don't get your own way at Check In or at the gate, would you?
Customer service these days has a price attached. If you think JQ are bad, have you flown with Ryanair recently? Or for that matter, one of the US domestic airlines? Just finished a trip to the states...and let me tell you, points aside, JQ aren't all that bad.
Sure they've stuffed up. And sure, you were told the wrong info about their baggage charges and stuff. But the onus these days is back on the consumer. More and more responsibility for reading ticket conditions, etc. is being put back onto the consumer. AN lost a fortune accommodating every Tom, Dick and Harry for their own stupid mistakes and hissy fits. I worked there, and saw what went on daily.
Now...I'm sure you should've been treated better. But no airline is perfect, and QF and DJ have come in for their own slaggings before. But don't tar JQ with the brush of one bad experience. If I extended that logic, you'd probably not bank with anybody at all, not borrow money and certainly not use consumer electronics such as mobiles, laptops, etc. We've all got our own horror stories about service, reliability etc. It's life. Manure happens.
Don't sweat the small stuff. No airline is going to reimburse you for a heart palpitation.

EK doesn't fly from chc to bne. so its either via somewhere or get with the program. no one likes the ongoing downgrading of services but thanks to the NZ and Oz government who seem determined to wipe any lacal carrier from the earth by allowing anyone to set up shop or compete on most routes in oz/nz. nothing against competition but those who understand the aviation industry realise there is no such thing as level playing field. agree with mrseatback we dont have it too bad here, yet. i just flew ryanair and had to pay extra for a few of kilos above their limit. the checkin chix told me that around 15% of their revenue comes from extra baggage (15 kg check in, 10 kg hand luggage, and both items are put on the scale) . no negotiations/take it or leave it.

had a reasonable amount of flights with J, always had friendly f/A's but only friendly nothing over the top (which is fine), food purchased when hungry or thirsty always fine. DJ couple of flight OK but F/A's sometime gave the impressions they were to pretty to be there - not all but a few.
Disruption management is often shocking on J*, but then have seen some very ordinary things with DJ, not good but thats the reality of things these days

Fox, 176 pax on board and we are always waiting for the 1 pax who has walked away from the boarding gate, sitting at a cafe/bar or slothing it in the lounge. Whilst we are madly trying to amend the load sheet cause we cant find you, all of a sudden your type shows up slowly strolling to the aircraft oblivious to anything other than yourself.
Heard of a schedule??
Get a private jet or start your own airline and see what you have to put up with. Couldn't give a rats either if you didn't fly with us again.
Reminds me of the time I did a P.A when a pax left the QF lounge at departure time to board his flight. "Ladies and Gentleman, sorry about the delay but it seems one passenger couldn't do what the rest of you have done and board on time. I believe he is walking down the aerobridge as we speak so please feel free to let him know your not happy about this as he walks on."
He entered the aircraft with a huge rucus of "good onya mate" "booo"
