Qantas to reinstate Beijing Flights

Qantas to reinstate Beijing flights abc.net.au

Qantas is resuming flights to Beijing after a six-year break, in anticipation of the Chinese capital's Olympic Games in 2008.

Qantas is boosting its number of flights to China overall in the lead-up to the Games.

From January, Qantas will offer three weekly services from Sydney to Beijing, building up to daily flights to Beijing and Shanghai within two years.

Qantas already flies three times a week to Shanghai.

Qantas executive general manager John Borghetti says travel between China and Australia has increased by more than 40 per cent in the past three years and is expected to grow a further 20 per cent in the next 12 months.

"Within two years we expect to offer daily Qantas flights to both Beijing and Shanghai in response to the growing trade relationship between Australia and China and increasing demand for leisure travel in both directions," he said.

Mr Borghetti said Qantas's new two-class Airbus A330-300 aircraft would operate on all flights to China.

... And there were rumours of A333s being replaced! Seems to me like the A330 isn't doing too bad if Qantas are going to use them on this new route

Some one must have noticed all those Chinese airlines flying in and out of Australia and the penny dropped.

Duh. Maybe there is a market flying to and from China.

They are sharp those QF execs.

Or perhaps they just needed to wait for 3 more new aircraft to come before they could service the route.
