Qantas Spin
Is there any end to the distortion of the truth by the Qantas spin meisters?
In the latest issue of the inflight magazine, there is an article by their Head of Security, one Geoffrey D Askew. (Does the "D" stand for "Dopey" or "Dill"?) In it he lists the various Qantas initiatives taken relating to security issues since 9/11. One of these initiatives was ' installation of security-enhanced cockpit doors on all Qantas Group aircraft.'
Didn't the US FAA make this requiremnent compulsory with the airlines just following orders, especially if they wanted to continue to operate to, through or from US airspace?
He also talks about 'enhanced background checks for staff and reissue of identity cards'. In the light of recent issues at Sydney, just who is this fool kidding?

In a recent subscriber email version of Crikey.com there is a great hatchet job on Askew by a "former Qantas management staffer."
The author alleges Geoff baby was a Victorian cop who did not rise to great heights and got the job through a James Strong connection.
He does not have a high opinion of Geoffs ability.
Its makes great reading. I hope they publish it on the Crikey.com website for all to see.

tipsy was told he (GA), also played a pretty underhand "heavy" role with fellow and then former TN staffers around August 19eighty9. He was later apparently shipped off to IATA Security in BKK as a result to avoid possible legal and physical retribution in Aust.

What a tease?
King Oath,
Instead of hoping for Crikey.com.au to put it on their web-site (things there are much changed since the sale), why don't you do a 'cut and paste' for us to read here?
