Qantas flight attendants aren't actually 'employed' by Qantas, but through another company. Maybe this has something to do with the problem? I can't remember what the company is called but I guess it saves Qantas' arse if they fall tits up. Anyone else know of the same?

BC, the flights in question were QF26 BNE-SYD and QF25 SYD-BNE. I was connecting both ways to the UA SFO flights. My travel agent had suggested a QF dom flight BNE-SYD but I said I would take QF26 as that goes to the int terminal and it allowed an extra 30min ish transfer time over the dom flight.
In a perverse way it seems that the likelihood of flight delays is nearly always directly related to the importance of the trip. For that reason I favour a slightly longer transfer if available and avoid LHR if at all possible, that place is a nightmare.
QF26 was listed as late when i arrived at the checkin. I asked if the revised departure time was a maybe or a goer as I had plenty of time to go to BNE dom and get a flight from there. They said confirmed time, I should have known better. On the return QF25 pushed back between SYD ITB and ITC and got pulled forward. We sat for a while then taxied round the corner and stopped. Techies said starter problem, have to go back to a gate for engineering. Woman across the aisle bursts into tears, saying about having to get to BNE on time. I can't believe how some people expect life to be totally on time every time.

You are kind of correct, a large percentage of short haul flight attendants are NOT employed by Qantas they are employed by a labour hire company called MAM. This company provides casual flight attendants to Qantas short haul. The last time flight attendants were employed by Qantas into the short haul division was in early 2003 and that was only 50 crew for the start-up of the Perth base. The hundreds upon hundreds of crew employed over the past 2 years to cover increased flying, resignations by permanent crew etc have all been casual's through this labour hire company.

Three bars, your average cattle class punter couldn't give a fig for
the matters you describe ("low morale", "them against us attitude", "concerted attack on conditions").
Don't like the work, apply elsewhere.
As a fare paying punter my dollar only wants smiles, consistent cabin service and "feel good" during the flight.
Singair performed and (on my 2 flights) Q didn't.
End of story.

Oh sorry Chimbu,
I thought you might have been interested in why things are the way they are at moment, but I was obviously mistaken. You just wanted to have a whinge - hope you are feeling much better now you have it off your chest.
End of story

"Sooner the (so called) full service brand disappears from our skies the better."
You sure you want that to happen? I am assuming you would like to pay for any endorsement you need as the company upgrades to different types.

It has been a while since we have had a good QF bashing thread.
The tension was starting to get to me.
Totally off thread, guess which prominent QF poster finally scored his long-lusted after -400 slot... ?
PS and no it wasn't me...

The most prominent QF poster I've seen is the one issued in the USA in the 70's showing a Koala with his fist in the air - with the caption "Koala Power".
QFLAX (when they served SFO only) couldn't get enough of them - especially for the black areas of LAX!
OK I'm on my way!

Yup Buckshot, tis me. Just after Chrissie unless they (hopefully) drag it forward or (hopefully not) push it back further!! My bank manager is the most excited! If we still had paper bids I would have put the 777 on it but with the change to the electronic form, I had to go with what they allowed me. Alas, 777 wasn't on it and I needed the change of scenery (as did the aforementioned bank manager!).
It'll go a long way toward me being re-engaged though!
Thanks Borg, just what I wanted, everyone on PPRUNE following my training! Although lust is a little strong. More like a wistful longing that I didn't think would actually come true- much like the rest of my love life!!

Disturbing scene on a BA146 Perth - Kalgoorlie about 2 weeks ago....
I was in row 2 and along with a full load of pax witnessed a despatcher give the two FAs a serve for the flight being late.
The two FAs gave back as good as they got but without raised voices.
The despatcher was out of line. The scene should have taken place on the ramp away from passengers.
I understand this was not a QF operated flight but they all had a QF uniform on.
Maybe the despatcher was a QF employee and the FAs NJS thus the tension of a late flight......
