Is it true???

This could well be an old rumour / story, and been thrashed to death, but any truth to the RUMOUR that Brian McCarthy is now a DJ captain?

I heard this third hand, but I believe it is FACT.

Also heard a rumour that JR threatened to walk out of DJ if BM wasn't hired...

I hope BM has come home to roost.

BM was the leader of the union at the time. From another viewpoint he was just a 727 Captain - so what?

There were plenty of other union leaders. Some scabbed, some didn't. At least BM didn't say one thing and do another.

Looking back now - a 727 looks pretty small.

A 727 Captain should be seen as a worthy colleague. Achieving such a goal should be seen as a personally significant achievement.

A 727 Captain isn't supposed to be gifted with with the wisdom of Methusalah. And, we can't post-hoc expect such a thing from BM nor anyone else.

At least BM never actively corroded, white-anted nor diminished our occupation. In fact, his great mistake (if there was one) was that he fought too hard and too naively for the airline pilots of Australia. Not a sin of the heart - as we currently see abundantly evident in the carping and capricious actions of pilots in Australia.

I left Australia in 89 and all I see here makes me feel damn glad that I will never work there again.

Nice to see that there aren't any people left in the industry with a petty attitude

HIALS, your beliefs of BM are exactly what I have held the man to be for all these years - a well rounded individual with the good of Australian Pilots in mind.

He tried / WE tried, but failed, and alas, look at the sordid, dispicable mess we have in Oz today!

The Australian aviation industry, particularly RPT, only has ITSELF to blame. They whinge, moan, groan, and scab on EACH OTHER, yet won't do anything that may involve helping EACH OTHER as a WHOLE. It's all ME ME ME, and how that affects ME, and bugger YOU!

Australia REALLY is now THE arse-backwards aviation centre of the Southern Hemisphere, perhaps maybe both...
