Qantas bashing -It's becoming a sport in D&G

From the outset let me state that I don't work for QF.I'm currently working towards my CPL and are a regular reader and occasional poster on the D&G forums. I also have a job in the finance industry. I have no gripe with QF.

What I cannot understand is the constant QF bashing that goes on here. I strongly suspect that most of the mud slingers don't,won't and never will work for QF. The world is full of armchair experts. Most of us meet them everyday, and they're usually the first ones to tell you how something can't be done.

My question/comment is this: Is it really that bad at QF?

Do you think that this is once again a case of the crap rising to the top in the form of the vocal minority?

I'm happy to stand corrected, but from what I'm reading ,this certainly seems the case.

Nah mate, its bashing in general

Its not just QANTAS - if its got aircraft and employees you can bet it'll get bashed on here. Should be renamed D & G Bashing Points. I guess its part of the Oz psyche? Noone can stand seeing anyone else doing well (or not so well for that matter.) Why play the game when you can boo from the sidelines with a tinnie in yer mitt?

You believe that those QF pilots who post on this forum are not 'actually' employed by the airline because, as someone relatively new to the industry, you still have stars in your eyes about the national carrier.

Fair enough, I was the same as you once (20yrs ago) as well.

The jobs good mate, but the future is not. The companies management detests its pilots. Openly.

"DR" in flight ops management is one example. A colleague who was on the EBA 4 negotiating team accurately described him as "consumed with the destruction of the position of pilot in QAL".

Add to that mix individuals from JQ actively attempting to undercut your flying and positions and you start to get the picture.

If you can, have a look at Qrewroom if you think I am full of guano.

Good luck with your career, but if I were you I would keep my financial quals and contacts alive. You will need them if you continue to persue aviation.

Is "what" really that bad?????

If people bash them as pilots, I guess it's because a lot of people see them as tossers. I don't know if it's a cadet thing or what but so often, whenever you hear someone making a tosser of himself on the air, it is a QF guy.

The first to harp on about airmanship but they still see fit to come out with the most inappropriate garbage on the air. Can offer examples if necessary...... no point in arguing it, I've HEARD THEM!!!

Eventually they get themselves a name as a bunch of grippers so why are you surprised?

Disclaimer: Qantas was not my first preference as an airline to fly for and the above is part of the reason why.

YES QF IS that bad. I worked for them for 11 yrs, During the EBA negs, (i was a delegate at the time) i was told by my senior manager
I am going to dedicate the rest of my career to F*#king you off out of this company!
nice way to treat your employees! after 10 yrs service, i was told i would have to start again on a new pay structure to continue employment, which menat taking a 20% pay CUT, and working ANOTHER 10 yrs to get back to where i am! again, providing me plenty of incentive to work harder!

This is TYPICAL of QF managment style. to those on the outside! QF is the be all and end all of placed to work, once inside, that illusion is quickly destroyed.

Fortunatly Karma works both ways, not long after that little meeting (i managed to close a workshop for a day using QF's own policys ) i was offered a redundancy! whoohoo! and about a year later, that very same manager was at the beachfront admiring the million$$ units in front of him, when i walked out onto my balcony, and looked straight at him! ohhh it felt goooood.

With out a CPL we can decipher that dude 65 doesn’t work for anybody; let alone QF. If you are a regular reader and the odd poster in D&G then the aviation sector is safe for now. As for the finance sector I hope like s##T that you don’t work for MLC finance.
If you think that QF is sitting there awaiting the finish of your CPL and the 777 are now on hold until then you sit you stage one then I can only say remove d#ck from hand before opening mouth. As a QF hopeful many years ago and seeing many Ansett pilots after me rejected, I can only say its possible that you may very well make it. As for armchair expert I feel most of them come from the finance sector. My Question to DUDE 65 is “if ya so f###en good why spend 50 grand or more in a dying financial industry as far as pilots go.

Mind you I love flying the KING AIR. If QF had KA,s and I could go back to school I might reapply!!! Who am I kidding?

Hi to all QF don’t let GD F##k you over
Stick together

Regards to sactaf and gimp

80% Tossers

Yep thats right a big 80% of the blokes I know that have got into QF are that and more. Sorry most are not that smart either.
However, they are still the best to work for if you want to live in Oz (A BIG PLUS) and make a dollar. QF is full of wankers, but it is still the ultimate.

Geez, Louise. What an awful thread. Most people on this really have no clue what they're talking about, but like to spout off regardless.

65? You open a thread like this one and effectively you are inviting the criminally insane to jump in.

QF ain't that bad. You don't see many jumping ship do you? We have some industrial issues and I will admit we do have a few tossers.

But 98% of the people are terrific, they do their jobs very well and are fantastic to work with.

Spinner has a huge jealous chip on his shoulder I think, because he is just plain wrong. There are fools, but I guarante you that there are a few d1ckheads where he works, too. And I'll bet he'll be the first to tell you that he aint one of them!

Come on FS, it aisn't that bad really? You are right about old Drew though. He is one of the worst people I have ever seen in HR anywhere.

Dude, some of us bash QF because we remember it like it was, and see what it has now become.

I have to agree that ths thread is like a red rag to a bull. Unfortunately I also have to agree that it is currently no bed of roses at QF, a lot of which has to do with the current EBA negotiations, and the 'pigs in the trough' impression of management (an impression which seems to be uncannily accurate at the moment).

BTW, of all the times I have heard DR mentioned, not one has been positive. One senior pilot recently compared him to officers in Vietnam who ended up being 'accidentally shot by friendly fire at close range'.

Any shooting that kills or maims cannot, in any stretch of the imagination, be called "friendly fire"!

I must apologise for not acknowledging the existence of PPRUNE for being around for more than 6 years. It is only through, Machinegun Fellatio kind words, that he could only share via a PM, that this has been brought to my attention.

But Moderators you would agree that Prune would have been in its infancy then and not used by such a large number of staff.

Friendly Fire

"Friendly Fire" refers to the accidental death of troops by troops of the same side. The term was coined diring WW2 and gained (unfortunately)notoriety during Vietnam where about 15% of allied casualities were caused by their own guys.
There were a number of officers who thru' their inexperience and arrogance were considered dangerous by their own men. They were "fragged" or met their demise thru "friendly fire"
These terms were applied almost solely to the Yanks who were, shall we say, cavalier in dealing with the serious and deadly nature of war

Surf is right, except that FF casualties are and were more like 40% - most of them accidental.

Told many years ago that if I ever got to VN I would get looked up and down by troops.

You were simply told that if your platoon sergeant says to you "Sir, I think you should ask for a transfer otherwise on day one, week one, you will become a casualty" - ask for one, the CO would already be warned and waiting to transfer you.
