I've heard that a B717 had an FMS failure after departing Cairns a couple of days ago. The pilot initially asked for vectors to SWIFT, but then returned to Cairns and could only accept vectors and a visual approach - it was typical Cairns crap weather at the time, but fortunately found a hole East of the field and descended OCTA to stay visual.
I'm surprised that they couldn't accept an ILS approach - does the B717 only have ILS availability through FMS or what's the story?
