Question 737NG drivers bailing out of AirPac ?

I Was just at the local library and stumbled across a very large article in Yesterdays Fiji Post Newspaper proclaiming that the company had recently lost 4 experienced crew and need to recruit 10 more ASAP for the NG.

it struck me as odd why anyone would give up what appears to be an easy going lifestyle on a tropical pacific island for one in the great sand pit of hate.

coincidently the department of foreign affairs and trade have upgraded their warnings/cautions to australians travelling to Fiji , sounds rather ominous , especially to someone who has only been here a few months. should one "get out before she blows" ??

maybe someone here can shed some light on the air pacific way of doing things , or are pay and work conditions at AirPac just generally crap and knife throwing is the sport of the day?

Yes, there is a little bit of hate in the Tropical Pacific Island too. The pay and work conditions are really, really crap and as well as the local pilots stabbing each other in the back, they really hate contract pilots. It's certainly a very unpleasand and uncomfortable environment to work in especially when you have to look over your shoulder all the time.

At one stage last year, the local pilot's union contacted a GA pilot who was looking at buying a 737 type rating to further his chances of getting out of GA, and told him straight that if he went ahead with his plan the union would ensure that he would never get employed as a pilot in Fiji. A nice band of brothers,eh?

Thumbs down

Initial contract conditions have been released by IAC with terms that are disgraceful. Quoting 350NZD per duty tour with average of 13 tours p/m, per diem allowances as per air pac t & c's, (not quoted). Nadi based, domiciled in aus or nz with cummuting at id90. I would hope that a clear message is sent to these employers!
