Jobs at Jetstar
hey any jetstar drivers in the know,
Are they employing pilots now. Will they be employing for a while. Is there seniority - what chances of command upgrade exist. What is the net pay per month. how much leave. Are there travel benfits with QF or other carriers. Whats rostering like.
so many questions. any info would be great.

Had a couple of my Jetstar mates over for dinner and they nearly fell asleep.
I can't believe the hours you guys do.
They reckon if KA could recruit faster there would be heaps more leaving.

EWS,
They are interviewing DE Capts onto the French Chainsaw as well as general entry onto B717
A few 89'ers from both sides getting through to sim rides. Some ex-F28 too (recognised the callsign).
Good luck.

Hugh,
Are they recruiting FO's as well. Do you know if they will be in the future.
Heard the other day that the "cheapest A320 pilots in the world" rumour has surfaced regarding Jetstar. Not hard to guess where such a rumour comes from but obviously from people who have very narrow horizons.

I understand Eastern lost a couple of Captains to Jetstar last week….. Start on 717 as FO, then progress to A320 FO before 717 Capt (that’s assuming Jetstar get the Qantaslink contract) then A320 Capt.
FO $72,000 I think... Base Hobart, Melbourne or Newcastle
Time to command who knows, with direct entry Captains and future Commands already promised to Qantas mainline, it’s a big call but there is always Dragon in the future if you are young enogh…
typo.......

spinout, the salary you have quoted is bollocks, but I guess that is what rumour networks are good for.
Straight from the Agreement, freely available, a First Officer in the current year of the agreement is on $73,202.00 plus additional payment of $81.00 per hour flown over 75 a month, plus a $4200. payment per annum.
Not much you might say compared to a Qantas F.O. but almost double the figure you are quoting and favourably comparable to what a Virgin F.O. would get for flying 85 or 90 hours a month.

The A320 drivers I know at KA are probably working just as hard and are just as tired.

KA drivers on the A320 have averaged 85-90 hours/month for the last year and it will stay the same in the foreseeable future.
Jetstar guys don't be in a hurry to spread your wings to hong kong - KA also do 10 overnights/month; and get 8 days off per month.

Sorry FF I made a mistake… thanks for the other info…
What’s the $4200 for its is not mentioned in the agreement?
Any ideas on the Qantaslink contract?
What about future expansion beyond 23 A320’s

Interesting to see if the success rate is higher amongst the Jetstar applicants, as opposed to the dismal performance as of late from the hopeful Vb applicants, when applying for jobs overseas.
Maybe there is more to a winglet than a place for Richard to scrawl the Virgin label after all

There will probably be quite a few jobs coming up very shortly. The story that is doing the rounds is that some of the 717s will be kept at Jetstar for the thinner routes, ie Tassie and Adelaide.
Apparently the entry hoops have caught many out. The brain bender test has apparently been a bastard to get through and has so far scrubbed Mainline, EAA and ex Ansett guys . A real shame considering the tallent that is out there. I guess thats the way of the modern day world. The white coat brigade that can profile the "perfect pilot" to a tee but cant do their own shoe laces up.
I can see a day in the future when the average QF group pilot profile would be
Lives at home with mum.
Has never had a girlfriend.
Has a wardrobe full of home made cardigans.
Wears thick black glasses and has a comb over.
Is a commitee member of the Double helix club.
Thinks the way to fly a jet is by the FOQUAR.
Im showing my age I know. Bring back the good old days where pilots had to be able to sink a beer, fly a plane and get on with others in the work place.
Douglas.
P.S 2 have left for Dragon with more to come.
