A lot of people will be happy as many senior folk at mainline just could not abide TJ for a minute more.
My bet is that he will be appointed Chief Operating Officer of Jetstar. AJ will soon return to mainline to be the boss of Network. Strategy and Fleet Planning, replacing the current aged incumbent. The latter will either be the CEO of Jetstar as a reward for being a loyal servant or will depart the scene with a truck filled with money like the Lotto ads on TV. The CEO role at Jetstar will be primarily ceremonial as all of the real decisions (network, pricing etc.) will originate from within Qantas.

If this clown got half the wages he got at Qantas he would still be grossly overpaid. He is probably still living off the retainer QF paid him to stuff AN. No disputing he did a great job in that role.

He and that goose of a chief pilot at Ansett were principally, no wholly, responsible for the recommendation that the CRJ be introduced. No doubt the rocket scientist, now long departed for BA, signed off on the deal bu the recommendation came from the two aviation equivalents of brain surgeons??? F%&# me!!
I reckon that when Air sheep bought in, they would have had a look at the $$ going out the door on the CRJ operation and decided that the whole thing was a non goer.

I had an argument with TJ on ABC talkback in January (2000?) about the cracks in AN's 767 pylon attachments.
I polightly said that this was a result of a total collapse of maintenance planning and that something was very very wrong.
TJ categorically denied it. Then two months later CASA (or whatever) pulled AN's plug for just this reason.
The guy is either a total idiot or worse. I wonder if there are forces in Qantas that want J* to fail? They sure as heck want to distance the product from Qantas's offerings.

re the CRJ's
Perhaps I can add some info on the CRJ.
The initial recommendation came from a consultant. I sat alongside the guy while seconded to the AN BRP. I think he was from Bain.
He got out his calculator and decided that the average load factor on the thin jet routes was only around 50 so therefore AN needed a smaller jet. I argued unsucessfully that those routes attracted great loads on normal jet size at full fare at the peak times but some times lousy on the return leg. Yet the average $ return was still greater then having both legs filled to capacity with discount fares.
Unfortunately his recommendation one the day. The rest is history.
Yet still many companies listen to consultants rather then the experienced insiders.

Now that I am sober again, allow me to say... SOMEone around here knows nothing about the topic, alright, but he's managing to make a lot of noise.
and as for TJ being "good experienced management"...... don't make me laugh. Anyone who saw him trying to deal with the 767 fleet-grounding on TV, Easter 2001, would realise this guy is one of that rare breed: the ultimate in Bullsh!t Artistry, able o climb a 10 storey greasey pole in a single bound.
His comments showed the low standard AN "head-hunted" for themselves. Either that or he was on the QF payroll. Either way *** *** is a ***************************. Although, to be fair, he DID organise scrambled egg for the capts, that was worthwhile. What a champ he is.

He appeared after the AN Jumbo incident.
I would not be surprised if the initial calls were from the Red side of the tarmac. ANs Jumbo operation posed a direct threat to QFs international operations and with the operation going a bit haywire an ideal opportunity would have presented itself.
It must have been a terrible shock to Qantas having one of its 747 Management pilots defecting to an expanding international operation that will be in direct competition with QF.
But they were very forgiving of poor trev and let him back into the fray as soon as the Ansett situation was irretrievable.
Now a "Discount Charlie" with Jetstar - poor bugger.

It's now official with the big man pparently being named Head of Technical Operations to run all of Jetstar's Central Operations, Flying Operations and Engineering activities. I understand CASA have to confirm the appointment. Does anyone know what's "Central Operations"?
I feel sorry for the poor guys at Jetstar as they had enough agin them without this. When does AJ return to mainline and a nominal CEO appointed?
