Hawke and Qantas
I was just looking at todays Melbourne "Age" on the internet and saw an extract from a speech on industrial relations by Bob Hawke.
"Mr Hawke urged Mr Howard to "reconsider what appears to be an intention to take Australia further down what can only be a more confrontationist, and in terms of social cohesion, self-defeating, road".
Mr. Dixon is about to take Qantas down a path (or further down a path) of confrontation using a battle plan carefully crafted by that same Bob Hawke in 1989.
Is my understanding of hypocrisy flawed?

Moderate, Modest & Mild.
Howard is about to finish what Hawke began 15 years ago - deliver the coup de etat to the TWU, a major artery of the ACTU.
Crocodile tears again, from that silly old b@gger
Dixon might be in for a bigger fight than he figures.
Remember the common fate of the 4 now defunct airlines who took on only the pilot group back then?
It'll be a major body blow to QANTAS if it becomes an all out war, and likewise for ALL other QF employees if they DON'T realise where the axe is next going to be wielded, imho.

Kaptin - why do you think Australian and Jet * have been set up ?
Unlike '89 the displaced won't have to go offshore to find employment. They'll take positions at a rapidly ramped up Oz or * at WHATEVER price and be bloody thankful for it.
Shafted by experts and for the second time around and everyone's gobsmacked by the obvious.

Nope, we should never forget them.
Should they be called upon, in the national interest of course, Pete and his boys over there would be ready to go.
Just like they were in that unmentionable year.

good to see these trolly dollies get to them what's coming.when we where on the picket line in 2000 as these drove in to work through our pick line they where telling as to get over it ,and to take the company offer( as engineers at the time where getting as little as 30k a year).know they expect some sort of simpathy for pushing a drink cart around an aircraft for 80 to a 100k a year, and trying to tell the Australian public that what's is happening is un Australian.well we have been losing work to o/s maitenance company's for year's and our cost base is much lower than theirs.so all i can say is GET OVER IT.

Old Bobby boy must be getting Alzheimers.
He was the bloke who started the ball rolling with employers sueing unions post 89. What a precedent he started. And this from the former head of the ACTU.
Obviously he has forgotten. Or could it be crocodile tears from an irrelevant old man. Either way there are many who will dance on his grave. They'll probably organise the party here on Pprune.

I'm actually somewhat surprised that anyone pays any attention to anything that the 'silver bodgie'/silly old b***er/whatever says these days.
And will someone please correct me if I'm wrong but part of what's left of my grey matter tells me that it was none other than Hawkie himself who once made the statement along the lines that there is nothing more EX than an ex Prime Minister!

VH-Cheer Up; Thanks for that. I stand corrected.
