YSSY Down to one runway???
YSSY was utilising one runway only yesterday ,Friday 01 Oct Local. I understand it was the shorter Rwy16L. Would anyone have background on this situation? I believe it was chaotic.

20 minute taxi am on the 1st for a 12 minute sector!
Mind you, watching a United 744 cause a Rex SAAB to perform that death defying - we - climbed - vertically - and - I - though we - were - gunna - die - manoeuvre was kind of interesting.

Clarrie,
Sorry, but to me the sentence appears incomplete and does not make sense.
What did the 744 do to cause the Saab to perform something death defying? Was it wake turb? Some type of separation breakdown? or perhaps a runway incursion? Also, what was the death defying act performed by the Saab?
What ever it was, it seems to have caused you to suddenly perform a steep vertical climb.
Please don't take this as smart ass criticism. I am just trying to make sense of the statement as it appears to be the result of an interesting event.
Maybe I am reading too much into it or just plain dumb.

G'day Jenna,
I haven't taken your comment as a smart ass criticism, I just wasn't sure what was confusing you.
The United 744 was holding at G1 (RWY25) and I at G2. They were cleared for take-off and after a long convoluted readback started inching onto the runway, very very slowly.
The three pilots on my flight deck all recognised that the 744 was entering so slowly that the next landing aircraft, a SAAB which had not long popped out of the gloop on the 07ILS, was closing fast and we weren't surprised when the 744 was instructed to hold position and the SAAB instructed to go around.
My reference to the death-defying manoeuvre is a tongue in cheek shot at journo's who often seem to sensationalise what is really a normal manoeuvre, and we see TV interviews, or read press reports of the passengers who claim that "the aircraft climbed vertically and we thaught we were gunna die"

Clarrie....
I think if you put dashes in your slightly-confusing-at-first-but-still-amusing-piss-take-shot-at-the-journos sentence it might be easier to understand the way you meant it!
Or am I being too picky for D&G.....
Another.
