Post NSW Opposition enters REX wrangle

From ABC.net

The New South Wales Opposition has hit out at Sydney Airport Corporation over what it describes as an attempt to downgrade the major regional airline in NSW.

Regional Express (REX) has rejected an offer to move to a site at Sydney Airport shared by three other regional operators.

Nationals' MP and Opposition tourism spokesman Ian Armstrong says the offer is impractical.

Mr Armstrong says a third of the state's population is in the regions and those residents should not be disadvantaged.

"Commonsense would tell you not to put a major regional airline in with a number of smaller airlines in a single lounge with a single desk without facilities for crews, with very, very limited facilities for passengers - it's almost in a hallway in the terminal, is not in the interests of an expanding airline, let alone rural NSW," he said.

The Sydney Airport Corporation says REX has been offered gate access comparable to all other airlines and should stop complaining.

Chief Max Moore-Wilton says the negative media campaign being pursued by REX is dishonest and will only serve to delay proper negotiations.

He says there is no way REX would have to relocate to Bankstown Airport.

Mr Moore-Wilton says at the end of the day, he has no doubt regional passengers will continue to have access to a full range of facilities at the T2 terminal at Sydney Airport.

Nope, not dishonest - sounds like Max "the Axe" Moore-Wilton is living up to his nickname by continuing on his merry way to reduce expenditure and increase income.

He says there is no way REX would have to relocate to Bankstown Airport.
That's right, REX has indicated that they would rather shut down than move to BK.

We'll see...but I doubt it.

If you wish to support REX in this matter you can sign an
e-petition.

The link to the petition is on the bottom left hand side of the REX website.

I note quite ironically on the REX website, a "virgin and Rex join forces" promo box. Considering its Virgin who wants gate 39. Naturally SACL are only too eager to gain the extra revenue.

So much for "KEEPING THE AIR FAIR"

The Santos food stand in the arrivals hall of T2 had several petition sheets and was enthusiasticlly asking for anyone and everyone to sign them. The even made all the Virgin Blue guys sign them in order to get the staff discount on coffee and bagels.

so what constitutes a "real airline" , Pete ?

... or are you one of THOSE idiots that walk onto a plane and ask the pilot is he/she "wants to fly a real airplane one day " ?

or

" Do you want to get your commercial licence one day " ?

or

"is this thing safe" ?

or are you just a plain moron ?

I personally think that Rex needs Virgin, more than Virgin needs Rex. So when no longer required, Rex will be hung out to dry. As seems to be the case here.

Cheers, HH.
