Air NZ A/C Double Go-around at Nadi Sat 24 jul

To state for the start this is not one of those "Oh my God an a/c did a go around" type threads just wonder if anyone has any idea why an AirNZ aircraft had to do 2 go-arounds at NAN on Sat night at approx 2200.

It is just a matter of curiosity as I was on the Air Pacific flight bound for LAX that sat for 30 mins waiting for it too land and saw it do the go-arounds.

The ATC in Nadi isnt the best most of the time, they have no radar system at all plus most of the new atc people are trained locally so they had no overseas training at all, so they get a little stressed out with there are 2 aircraft in the circuit area

Being with AirPac, you should know that more than anyone else. Why is it such a surprise? The normal arrival procedure coming in from the north west takes you out halfway to Tonga before the approach for rwy 20. But then again, can you blame ATC? There really isn't that much traffic to warrant radar. Might put too much of a ding in their very limited budget. With their limited economy there's no chance of spending until the situation really becomes excruciatingly desperate. That's just how it is.
