Thumbs down SAAB 340b Ferry/Older Ferry Pilots

During the latest of my random expeditions i witnessed the departure vh-tch at yswg. the aircraft was bound for sweden via port headland with extra bladder tanks in the back for the long nature of the legs. after watching the departure from rwy 23 i commented on the relatively long take-off distance in comparison with the previous saab which departed for sydney about half an hour before hand. one of the maintenance crew from rex said that it was right up on mtow.

so i thought no worries, off they go on their 8 hour leg while i retire for a couple of fresh stubbies (to my suprise they were the ones still with the vb cricket trivia on them, you beauty!). but to our suprise the same aircraft shows up around 10 minutes later, shuts down the left engine and the 'FO' hops out.

'whats happened mate?'

'nothing major, just forgot the coffee'

now, this brings a few matters to hand, maybe some of the rex lads could help us out:

1, how much would the cost of taxiing out taking off (to about 4000 ft) and coming back in a 340 cost?

2, How much over the max landing weight would they have been?

3, Could the coffee have really been that good?

I actually talked to these guys as they overflew Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates Capital, 150km sth of Dubai) on their way over to Sweden. They were on their way to Hurghada (a nice little town on the Red Sea coast of Egypt), and on reaching Sweden were gonna swap for a new aircraft and make the trip back. The speeds they were flying at it was gonna be one hell of a long flight so I think the coffee would be a requirement!

Why the "Older Ferry Pilots" in the heading? Just because they drink coffee!!!

Arby8,

The figures would go something like this:
MTOW 13155kg
MLDW 12930kg

BOW of TCH was about 8650kg and with the sh!t ripped out of it to be ferried say it came in at about 7500kg

8 hour sector with a burn of 500kg/hr then sector fuel would be 4000kg

Reserves fixed 250kg, Variable 400kg

A couple of appraoches @100kg a piece

So 7500 + 4000 + 250 + 400 + 200 = 12350kg

Even if they had another 500kg of cr@p they would be no where the MLDW or even the RGLW for runway 23 at WG
