Uh Oh

If you're not winding the whole debate up again intentially, use the search function on the top right... PLENTY of stuff there!

Hmmmm.....lets see

1. September 11/Continued terrorist threat(whether real or imagined - that's for another thread.)
2. Falling Pilot's salaries. (Thanks LCC)
3. Increased cost of Cadet Scheme.

Would you be spending $130K+ to put your kid through the scheme when they aren't guaranteed a job at the end? It seems a lot of parents are thinking along those lines. Especially when you can educate them through Uni and have them pay the costs to the Govt when they start earning money.

And probably earn a bucket load more money....

Have to agree with mmmbop.

In fact I'm surprised that the cadetship attracts as much interest as it does.

You would think that investing the amounts of money required should attract a greater chance of a return. You're better off taking your chances on the blackjack table.

hi. i would really like to get some info. i have heard that cadets now have to go to a small airline to fly little planes before they can go to qf proper. isnt this stupid? cadets should go straight to big jets shouldnt they?
thanks again for any info to come.

Spot on there IORRA, I can think of many bigger risks that someone could take.
It really is suprising to see the number of applicants falling - if you look at it purely from the 'gambling' point of view...
Say the cost of doing the cadetship is up to double what you would normally expect to pay for a similar course. History has shown that having completed the course the vast majority of poeple end up with a job with the airline at some stage. Now if you think about how many people there are out there that have done some sort of CPL course with the hope of making a living in the industry, and have then been forced to stop flying because they can't, I think the odds stack up in favour of the cadetship!

After all, it's only an application we are talking about here - you are not committing yourself to anything by applying. At least if someone gives this a go and gets through the application process they give themselves a choice as to which direction they want to take.

Talking

The odd's can favour you - maybe moreso in the current climate than in previous years due to the falling numbers. The falling numbers could be working for QF or against them. If they only require small intake then that's what they're getting. Hundreds of applications and they can pick the cream of the bunch.
However if the levels are falling low(er) *read not enough* than what current recruitment requires now or may in 2 to 3 years , should QF look to maybe relax some of the entry criteria required?. I am 100% sure there are people who are perfect candidates for the scheme but can not furfill the min req's for a cadet application.

However having said that , why would you want to increase the amount of cadets and find 2 years worth of industry exp. when you can hire a D/E person and have them on a course. I do not know the in's of outs of QF recruitment but its interesting trying to figure small parts out!.

"straight to big jets"
"isn't this stupid"
"only care about boeing"

cadet, if you don't make it into the cadet scheme, you can always go back to your day job in the fishing industry. I'd recommend changing your bait though as the one you're using is a bit obvious and old.

A very 2nd rate attempt there. I put forward Winstun's moronic memoires as recommended reading for the budding troll.

QF Cadet - What a ##ckwit, why people like you post such crap is beyond me. And if your serious about what you wrote then that is an even bigger worry.

Me thinks this is one heck of a windup....why else would someone name themselves QF Cadet when they don't even know anything about it.

And those comments of "small airplanes" etc serve his/her purpose well.

Either that or this person is just really really really really really really really really, wait, really dumb

Guys don't be so harsh, i myself would like to get into the QF Cadet program. I've heard it's really good and given the opportunity who wouldn't want to go straight in and fly big jets!! So if anyone has anything constructive to give me i'd appreciate it sincerely! QF Cadet might not be the brightest spark in the bunch but he sounds damn keen!!

Me thinks that QF Cadet has changed names to Sunsetbird. Its a start I suppose! If not, I agree it is a worry. So if it is true, Sunsetbird/QF Cadet or whoever you are, the most constructive thing I could say is change you attitude. Don't forget, those birds in Darwin are big planes too and with the hours that cadets graduate with its a very good deal. Having said that this has to be a wind up...so grow up
