Next jet for XR????
Sources tell me that XR management are in the process of arranging delivery of F100 no.2 to the WA regional, with an entry into service date of early May. Possible destinations touted include Karrratha, Kununurra and Darwin. Watch out Airnorth, you may have some competition in the Kimberley soon!!!

What happened to the other F100 "XR Management" had lined up to start in Feb??
Must be rather expensive paying all that 'bypass' pay for ballsing up the seniority list based on the 'so called arrival' of the 2nd jet.
By the time Skywest get their mystery second jet, Woodside will be drinking cocktails with Branson and his red jets in Karratha.
By the way Capn Bloggs - I'm with you.....cajun.
...and Airnorth have nothing to worry about.

All co-inciding with there public float. They have to appear that they are growing. Float the company, payback the initial shareholders investment then call back the two Marks.
I think QF have had enough of them now. There will be only one left standing.

Cruze Power,
QantasLink have been back at Hedland only since the demise of Ansett. Locals are not 'set in their ways'. Standards of service were far better with Ansett - particularly on time departures. And seat availability ex Hedland has always been a problem so a new player to the North-West would be supported - particularly if it meant not giving money (ie: inflated ticket prices) to QF et al.

CP,
yep, i can see all of your points in an objective way, and i do fully agree with you, obviously qf will make it hard for xr to run on this route, that is the nature of the game afterall, but thats what everyone said about per-bme and that is now a profitable operation for xr. i agree, per-drw direct in a '73 is obviously more appealing for the punters, but go into www.airnorth.com.au and check out bme-drw on the 5th of april, about $399!, via knx in a bras, $199 direct in the f100 on xr on the same day.
they are having a go, entering a market and growing their business, but doing it cautiously, as you would expect, and doing it profitably.
i know all about your background and why the chip is on your shoulder Tom...

Toodogs,
They may be set in their ways, but you conveniently don't mention that Airlink introduced business class, and fares dropped significantly once the cosy Ansett WA PHE monopoly was broken. The fact of the matter is that Ansett ripped off the NW for years trying to support the excesses that finally became it's undoing, and Airlink significantly improved the lot of the NW traveller, in terms of service AND price. For you to claim otherwise is wrong.
While I agree that Airlink could do a little better regarding service (ie aircraft size) it will all be solved when they get their Jungle Jets (the first of which arrives on 1Apr). Then the old Fokker will be killed stone dead.

While I can see the Perth-Broome-Darwin and return working to a degree one has to question the Perth-Karratha-Port Hedland-Perth run.
No pax want to travel via another port and with Karratha and Port Hedland being mining towns I don't think saving a couple of dollars is going to make a that much of a difference. Those traveling Karratha-Perth or Perth-Port Hedland are going to have (at least) an additional hour and a bit added to the flight time. There are no pax between Karratha and Port Hedland for a jet to get excited about.
Learmonth/Karratha was tried by XR after taking the route from another company but was shut down after several months due to poor loads (believe they blamed the fact that the aircraft wasn't a jet). The result is Learmonth has now been cut off from a direct link to the NW. Is the same about to happen to Karratha?
I give em 4 months tops before they pull out of Karratha (again).
Damn it....am I actually agreeing with Cruze???

MONDAY
Flight No Time Departure Time Arrival Duration Class
XR015 06:00 Perth 08:25
Broome 2:25 hrs Economy
08:55 Broome 12:10 Darwin 3:15 hrs Economy
XR016 13:00 Darwin 13:15
Broome 0:15 hrs Economy
13:45 Broome 16:15 Perth 2:30 hrs Economy
I like the schedule off the website, seems to suggest it takes 2:25 from bme-drw and 0:15 on the way back.
interesting

Also wonder if they have thought about Karratha to Port Hedland being a regulated and currently, subsidised route? Woops didn’t think of that! Um-ah, get a spanking for that!
