Singapore Airlines to Raise Capacity on Australian Routes

BRISBANE, Oct 6 Asia Pulse - Singapore Airlines will add an additional 36,000 seats to and from Australia to meet demand over the coming Christmas season.

SIA spokesman Stephen Forshaw said all five of the carrier's Australian gateways will benefit from increased services over the summer period.

"Singapore Airlines is pleased that demand from major markets to Australia appears to be high for the forthcoming Christmas New Year period," he said.

"The decision to add supplementary flights in all markets will help the Australian tourism industry meet demand for overseas visitor arrivals from major markets in Europe and Asia."

Overall, 92 additional services will be operated between Singapore and Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne from late October through to February next year.

Perth will have an extra 51 flights, Melbourne will have 20 including larger aircraft on 30 existing flights, Sydney 12 and Brisbane nine.

There will also be the introduction of a regular fourth weekly service to Adelaide.

Mr Forshaw said with the 36,000 extra seats, SIA retained the capacity to respond to further changes in demand.

"This news is very positive for Australian tourism," he said.

"It shows the Singapore Airlines is supporting the industry with capacity after what has been a difficult few months for international tourism."

mmm,

As I may have said earlier, batten down the hatches because not only is it SQ... also Gulf Air are resuming Australian flights, Emirates are increasing their B777 flights (which are already chockers!) with a big intro of the new A340 soon.
Emirates already have a huge airframe committment to Australian ports, daily (!) both via Singapore and direct Dubai... with the Syd one through to NZ daily.

Not to mention the extras from our cousins in the north...
