AVM to open Scone Airshow

The Scone Warbirds Update Number 3
There are only 3 weeks to go until Macquarie Generation Warbirds Over Scone 2003!
www.sconewarbirds.org

Well folks Warbirds Over Scone Airshow 2003 on Sunday October 5th (the October Long Weekend) is shaping up to be an absolutely spectacular show.
REMEMBER at Scone you can win
  • An adventure ride in a MiG-15 UTI (value $2,000 - thanks to AirCombat Australia)
  • One of two adventure rides in a YAK-52 - (thanks to Black Russian Aerobatics) AND
  • One of FIVE copies of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 - "Century Of Flight Edition" - thanks to Microsoft Corporation!
See below for details on how to win these fantastic prizes.

Official Opening
We are very proud to announce the show will be officially opened at 10:30 by Air Vice Marshall John Kindler, AO AFC, Air Commander Australia of the Royal Australian Air Force and former commander of 77 Sqn and 81 Fighter Wing at RAAF Williamown. Mr Kindler's involvement is an important show of support by the RAAF for the Warbirds Over Scone Airshow which in 2005 will be commemorating the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Mr Kindler will introduce the opening act - a spectacular Flag Drop by Newcastle Sports Parachute Club, Australia's oldest parachute club. Luke Carter and a number of other highly experienced parachutists will jump from 3,000 with a 40' flag suspended from his feet - and will then be chased to the ground by Victa Airtourer!

Air Display News
The Air Display papework has been submitted to CASA and the magazine has gone to the printers with the details "set in stone" so to speak. Assuming everything goes to plan (and old aircraft can always break or decide not to start on the day) then the Flight display programme will be essentially non-stop between 10:00 and 15:00 - that's five hours of aerial action that you won't see anywhere else! Just to give you a taste...
  • A feature of the Air Display will be just after Midday when the Air Raid sirens will sound and Matthew Denning, displaying his recently restored CAC BOOMERANG, will suddenly find himself in all sorts of trouble with a ZERO. Its a good thing that Murray Griffith will be here in his KITTYHAWK!
  • Once that excitement is over we will leave Port Moresby and come forward to the 1950s for a number of aircraft handling displays, including the DHC-1 Chipmunk flown by a formerly Scone-based 767 pilot and a MiG-15, showboating up and down the Strip. The RAAF's 77 squadron saw action in Korea against the MiG-15 and we will have to rely on Col Pay's P-51 Mustang to see off the MiG.
No amount of text can do justice to the spectacle we have planned: Other displays will include the Southern Knights in their Harvards, Australia's only Spitfire (with thanks to Temora Aviation Museum), the spectacular Pip Borrman in his incredible EDGE-540, Col Pay displaying the unique Italian-built turbine bird dog in its Australian Airshow debut, and an incredible earth-moving display by Temora Aviation Museum's A-37B Dragonflies in partnership with the Bird Dog and a T-28 Trojan in the Airshow's grand finale.

What an amazing line-up of aircraft - and that is just a selection!

Ground Displays

For the first time, in 2003 we will be forming an airshow trade pavilion where all the aviation retailers at Scone 2003 can gather and you can browse while still watching the show. Some of the retailers in the "Airshow Skymarket" will include:
  • Temora Aviation Museum
  • Lukus Productions
  • Tecnam Aircraft
  • Landing Gear
  • Aeroplane Art Company
  • David Lindop Aircraft Parts
  • Gosford Hobbies
  • Grand Pacific Tours (New Zealand and Wanaka specialists!) and
  • Bose Headsets.
There will also be Defence Force recruiting, Sentient Software and new author, award-winning ABC journalist Phil Smith, promoting his new blockbuster novel "Shooting Script" featuring RAAF F-111s and Caribous. Also in the book game, Australian Military History Publications will be promoting Ted Sly's book "Luck of the Draw" as well as selling other titles.

Our sponsor Valley Longwall Drilling will have their Variety Club Bash cars on display collecting donations for the Variety Club; Graham and Helen Field with their unique Avro Anson Mk I, Seadog Photgraphy and 12/16 Hunter River Lancers with an Armoured Personnel Carrier and their own recruiting setup.

Vintage Cars, Motor Bike Clubs, Static Aircraft Displays, miles of food and of course the AVGAS BAR... where will we fit it all in?

Airport Update:
Scone Shire Council have been busily grooming the airport and rolling smooth all the Airshow movement areas; if you are flying in be sure to check all the NOTAMs and double-check the website for your fly-in Pilot Info Pack.

HOW TO WIN GOODIES:
There are two ways to get the goods![list][*]You could win the ride in the MiG-15 UTI thanks to Air Combat Australia OR the ride in the YAK-52 OR a copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 "Century of Flgiht edition" simply by purchasing a copy of the limited-edition Airshow Souvenir Magazine for a paltry $5.00 Inside you will find the full airshow display programme, a guide map to the Airshow grounds, Accommodation guide, Eating-Out guide, a profile on the Southern Knights and more.
