How long is a piece of string.....

Toboto 14th December 2009 09:31

Twice the length from the middle to one end.

enemyMiG 14th December 2009 10:17

But if the length from the middle to the other end was doubled, would that length be measured in weeks or months?

Toboto 14th December 2009 10:34

Not sure, I would like to know myself, I'm thinking of taking up enroute in sunny Brisbane, I'm in Melbourne at the moment, surely there has to be a gap?

adc123 14th December 2009 10:38

gap between training at the college and starting at your station varies. its negotiated with your managers. pretty much they want you to start ASAP.

jrbridge 14th December 2009 11:09

You get at least 1 week. If staying in Melbourne, 1 week. If elsewhere then travelling days as well.

enemyMiG 15th December 2009 06:50

That's what I was after.....nothing too zen.....:}

5miles 16th December 2009 14:09

Time between finishing at the Academy and starting final field training can vary considerably.

For an enroute group, it will primarily depend on when they have the OJTI and sim available to start. You might have 2 days or 2 months.

Nichollg 17th December 2009 08:00

Hello all.
I'll be joining you enemyMIG on the tower course 11 jan. Looking forward to the start and working hard through the pre-course study.

enemyMiG 17th December 2009 09:14

G'Day Nichollg

Nice to finally hear from someone on the same course as me!
I suspect that I'm the other recipient of the Kate Turner Class 3 email you might have received on Nov 6?
I'm in the process of winding up my operation, finishing my last job on new year's eve. I'm hoping a week's cramming will get me through the pre-course study material. Sounds like you're already stuck into it?

Nichollg 17th December 2009 09:49

enemyMIG
Looks like (after reading your posts) i have been down the exact same path as you over the last couple of months. Even pondering the same -
"What sort of time frame (if any) is involved between finishing the college phase and starting the field training?
(Especially if you have to move?)" - question.
Live in Country victoria so have had many trips to Melbourne (3hrs drive) to, mainly, organise accommdation. Have rented in Tullamarine, 6mins 31sec drive from the airservices gate (not that i have checked.)
I also quit my current job on the 31 Dec and will complete my move on the 8 Jan. Should have a beer that weekend before starting
Been working through the study material, but hard with a wife and four younger children. Have a long way to go. They will be staying here while i'm in Melbourne to maximise my study time.
Great too see hear of someone else on my course.:ok:

enemyMiG 19th December 2009 02:41

Nichollg

Four kids, hey? I thought I was busy with two!
It must be hard knowing you're going to be spending so much time away from your family.
Beer sounds like a superb idea.
Send me a PM when you've settled in and we'll tee something up. I'm in Kealba, not too far from Tulla.

enemyMiG 20th December 2009 11:22

Finally got around to starting the Pre-Course Study Material today.

Soooooo many acronyms......:{

No Further Requirements 21st December 2009 04:21

Yep - the place is full of TLAs......

One of these days you will think that ILS and DME are actually words.

Cheers,

NFR.

nick83 21st December 2009 06:42

Yay! I passed my interview and am on the Order of Merit!

Now to keep waiting :ugh:

enemyMiG 21st December 2009 09:04

A Three Letter Acronym?
WTF?

Congrats nick83

The_AU_Viper 21st December 2009 12:52

Hi guys

Just noticed this thread while searching the net

I also did my interview in brisbane on december 4th and today received the email saying im on the order of merit list :ok:

I applied in march so its been about 9months so far but im guessing it will be at least 4-6months if not more.

Any idea on how many make it from the merit list each year?

mikethepomme 21st December 2009 13:17

Congrats Nick + au_viper

The first offers after finding out we were on the list were 2-3 months, i got mine after about 6... and i think there might be a couple still waiting (9 months now)

People have said everyone on the last order of merit list (march 09 interviews) will be offered a position... not sure if thats the same everytime... but i would say its much more likely you will be offered a postion.

Good luck

The_AU_Viper 22nd December 2009 05:47
