Transport

Cheers guys, thanks for that. I will look into travel to Swanwick as opposed to Fareham. It's an afternoon course, so I should be able to do it in good time! Many thanks. Anybody else on that same time/day?

That's early Steamyb i'm getting the 9.11 train from Durham to get in for about midday at Glasgow Queen Street station. What time you getting into Glasgow?

Steamyb 26th March 2009 16:37

Glasgow

I'll get into Glasgow QS about 10.30 I'm going for coffee + bite 2 eat with my head in the NATS document for last minute revision (not quite got the aircraft stats. in my heed yet..:uhoh:...), then over to the Hilton about 12.45

ryan91 26th March 2009 17:50

Hey, also on the 13:30 test...should see you both there. Live locally (about an hour on train) so not too shabby.

Boxerman 26th March 2009 20:34

JonathanB 26th March 2009 20:39

Boxerman... Errrr, no offence but it might be a start to read the information that has been sent to you when you booked your stage 1 as everything is there.

Then come back and have a read through this thread for extra hints, tips and clarification.

paperclip810 26th March 2009 20:41

Hi Boxerman,

Please have a good read at this forum for loads of information on Stage 1 (and the later stages too). You should have already been sent information by NATS to help you prepare and things that should answer your questions!

Anything specific, please ask, but to save us all repeating the same things over and over, learn *everything* NATS has sent you and read the whole of this forum to be as prepared as possible (I know it takes a long time - p22 has a good post there to start with).

Good luck with Stage 1!

Bzz1 27th March 2009 10:12

Hey guys,

Further to my somewhat anxious post of a couple of days ago, I got the email from HR this morning inviting me to take the online personality questionnaire, so I guess that means I've passed stage 1.

I know it's far from over and I'm not counting my chickens at all, just glad to have gotten over that first hurdle. Good luck to anyone waiting on results for any stage!

Gogz87 27th March 2009 10:34

I'm so nervous. Stage 3 this Monday.

Andrea_CTA 27th March 2009 10:52

@ Bzz1

When did u sat you S1 test?
I had mine on 13rd @ Hilton Tower Bridge but still no reply

Andrea_CTA 27th March 2009 12:06

Very disappointed...
Your application has been unsuccessful :ugh:

Tobiwan 27th March 2009 12:16

I have to say I'm relieved to have passed the testing at the Hilton on 13th March, now for the personality questionnaire!

Slinky1989 27th March 2009 13:47

I've registered for stage 1 tests on April 8th at 13:30 at fareham.

Ever so slightly nervous! But I have wanted to do this for a while as my father is an engineer (can't remember what license, I'll ask him when he gets back) currently working at schiphol who got me into this whole aviation malarky.

Any way, as someone who doesn't exactly know all the ins and outs of aviation and comes from a back ground of A level education, is it mainly important to learn the material they have sent me or will they ask me questions on other things outside of that?

I really want to do this, I'll be gutted if I don't get it! :p

carmel14 27th March 2009 14:39

Hi, I haven't posted b4, got my S1 interview @ the Hilton Tower Bridge on Monday @ 13:30.
I was jst wondring those who've been recently, how many different tests r ther n what do they consist of?

Is ther a 121 interview? dreding that! :}

Andrea_CTA 27th March 2009 14:40

Read carefully all the material they sent you. Practise with stuff on page 131 of this forum and .. Good luck!

CJayne 27th March 2009 14:43

I'll second that - my stage 3 is Tuesday....eeek!

Delvey 27th March 2009 17:33

Had mine today, there not overly hard, but you dont get alot of time, which is a problem. The test with shapes was the hardest, and make sure what they send you, you read. The last test is all about ATC, 30 questions all in all and if you read it you will know it all. Lasted just over 2 hours.

Stage Two Information

how many questions is the motivation paper for stage two made up of? and are they of roughly the same structure as stage 1 motivation paper....ie some STD, some air distances and some information from the booklet?

Advice 4 abz217

I thgink me n u r kinda similar. I was a straight A student all my life, bt frm 15 up i starte making the rong frends, finished my GCSEs in 2005 passing 9 of em they wer average.

then i did my AS yr @ 6th form, passed bt din do 2 well, didn't lyk the subjects.i the moved 2 a college, dropped out half way din tell mum. Thehn i applied to get into uni through clearing, got in, then dropped out half way, AGAIN, din tell mum, AGAIN!

I've bin workin 4 the past yr n tryna figure out wot i want 2 do. N suddenly i just stopped n realised, I waisted 3 yrs of my life bcos i havnt bin makin my own choices. I've bin doin wot my family wants me 2 do.

My advice 4 u ABZ217 is think very, very, hard about what u want 2 achieve in yor life. Research as much as you can, talk 2 lots of people 4 advice. And finally u'll know wot u want.:ok:

I've got my interview on monday but as a backup I'm in the process of applicaions 4 my A levels, THE ONES I WANT 2 DO. I'm also on the look out 4 other attractive training ops, am open to suggestions any1.

One thing, I noticed u sed u hav a pdf 4 stage 1 with speed time question, wer would i get acces to that?

Goodluck and best wishes

simon666 27th March 2009 19:09

and i was wouldering does anyone know about the eurocontral not much on the net if they have gone on to eurocontral tell me all about plez
hope its easer on there stage
cheers

JonathanB 27th March 2009 19:21

carmel - good for you figuring out what you want to do! have a read back and there are some links posted to various speed-distance-time questions.
Also, any chance of not writing the text speak? Makes it very difficult to read your post! :ok:

simon - sorry to hear that, you can always re-apply next year after having a go at more practice tests. Not sure about the feedback, but you could give them a call and ask - the worst they can say is no.

Slinky1989 27th March 2009 19:57

Just a quick question, if you don't get through stage one of the NATS tests, can you then apply for Eurocontrol?

Just a thought although I expect it to be a resounding no :)

JonathanB 27th March 2009 20:33

Slinky, I don't see why not - they're different companies/organisations, although you probably want to think about why you didn't get through the NATS selection and concentrate on improving skills in those areas as they're both going to be looking for similar people.

gingerpaul 27th March 2009 20:49

carmel14

"I was a straight A student all my life, bt frm 15 up i starte making the rong frends"

Did they steal your dictionary? :}

Seriously though, well done for picking yourself up and trying again. I was never great at school and it took me until half way through university to work out how to get through exams, which is what it all comes down to when you're talking about grades. I found that whether I learnt anything depended on how much work I did when I wasn't trying to pass exams. This is presumably why there are lots of graduates out there who haven't got a clue about the real world.

Slinky1989 27th March 2009 21:21

@jonathonB

Ah ok. I was more assuming on the basis that fail the personality test maybe.

But it's good to know you can after some more revision :) Cheers.

ajfaccini 27th March 2009 22:24

Has anyone got an expenses form?

student88 28th March 2009 00:31

Passed stage 1 on the 13/03 - will fill out the personality questionnaire next week when I'm nice and relaxed in Spain :ok:

NATS 'Text Alert' service/system

Wondering if any of the candidates in the selection process have used the 'text alert' option that NATS provide. On the initial application they ask would you like text alerts/updates, which I assume alert you to any emails/progress on your application.

Just curious as to whether they well, work really!!! And what do they say, for example if I had just done my stage 1 tests, would they send me a text alert with the outcome or tell me to check my emails for details?

Bzz1 28th March 2009 10:45

T250,

Yes it works fine. It doesn't alert you to the outcome either way, just sends you a text saying that they've sent an email.

It's not the fact that they "stole my dictionary". lol.
What i found was that there are some people in life who can balance their work/life. Unfortunately I am not one of them. I can either do 1 or the other @ a time.

Tobiwan 28th March 2009 22:10

KT - I did my 1st round on 13th March and only booked it on the 6th March. I had a few spare hours to gen up a little... Just read the info and practice the tests, then try your best.

There is no secret to it.

kt_earley 28th March 2009 22:35

Ok cool, thanx Tobiwan!:ok:

Have just had a look at the links on page 131 and tried the checking tests. Got all of the answers right within the time apart from the last set of questions, the combination of letters and numbers. Will keep trying to get that one done!

Was quite chuffed! :)
Am now off for some bed time reading thru the 19 pages!!!
fingers crossed!!! :)

S1 - 30th March

So who else is coming along to the Monday 30th S1 in London?
Please tell me I wasn't the only brave one to select the AM slot! :ugh: lol

Bzz1 29th March 2009 14:36

Anyone else found the NATS GTIOS website to be down for a while now?

Especially annoying for me as it seemed to crash at the exact time that I submitted my completed Personality Questionnaire, so I'm not sure yet whether it's gone through or not. If not, I may have the rather exciting prospect of doing every single one of the questions again  :ugh:

rossbrereton18 29th March 2009 15:29

I'm doing my stage 1 tomorrow in Manchester at 1.30, is anyone else there at that time? And have you looked at the qantas stuff? The same diagramming stuff is on there but there are more questions to revise

sv8564 29th March 2009 17:11

S/D/T questions

Please can someone give me some examples of what the S/T/D questions might be like:
Will the be more like:
a) How long will it take to travel X miles at Y mph
or
b) a plane travelling at FL360 descends at 6000ftpm, how long will it take to get to FL240?
or I am completely wrong?!?
Any examples would be a great help.

Slinky1989 29th March 2009 17:27

As far as I can tell, they're only simple distance/time/speed calculations so it'll be more like a)

So don't worry, if you're pretty handy at mental arithmatic (unlike me who is going to spend the next 2 weeks practising) you should be fine :)

rossbrereton18 29th March 2009 18:08

can someone tell me how long stage one lasts for?

Bzz1 29th March 2009 18:37

It'll be 3-4 hours max. I had the AM session, so we started at 0930 and I think we were all done by 1230-1300

All times are GMT. The time now is 14:56.
