I just had this email … looks like even if you’ve passed stage 2 you won’t get invited to stage 3. Unlike last year.

Thank you for your patience whilst we assessed the results of the Trainee Air Traffic Controller applications. We have had a greater volume of response than anticipated and as such it has been necessary to base progression to the next stage in order of performance at Stage 1 and 2.

We will be in contact to confirm whether we will be able to proceed your application as soon as we have undertaken the initial assessment centres.

Won't be able to apply next year now as it's less than 12 months.

too much of a coincidences if you ask me … however I spoke to current NATS employee and they ensure me, they’re not racist . Hard to believe when minorities aren’t getting selected …

Nonsense,a 40 year career and plenty of diversity. Ask a few questions about better recruitment strategies, particularly at the school/college stage and pack away your personal agenda.

It’s multiple choice but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s easy! You definitely need to learn the booklet

Ha i took a look at the last couple of pages and almost had a panic attack, is it very hard? I've tried my best to memorise most of the information i'm only struggling after chapter 12. Also the two figures, 4 (uk airways structure) and 8 (oceanic control track and separations) arent necessary for the test, are they?

Also serious question, there isn't a maths test involved in the resit of the stage 1 tests is there?

Honestly, rethinking if i'm good enough for this role looking at the last few pages as i didn't even know what FL... stood for until i checked it up?

You got invited to Stage 3 but don't know what FL means? Damn. I assume general knowledge like that will be needed for the tests.

I would say you don’t need to know the booklet word for word, you definitely need to UNDERSTAND everything though and recall the key timings/levels etc. for example I wouldn’t bother learning all the aircraft stats if you don’t have the time but you should have a good idea of what the general cruise level/speed is for a wide body vs narrow body vs turbo prop if that makes sense?
I didn’t do any maths as part of Stage 3.

you never know until you try! No one knows exactly what NATS are looking for but I would guess aviation knowledge is likely lower on the list of priorities compared with things like personality type and aptitude. They will teach you everything you need to know from the most basic level in the college.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I had no idea what FL stood for and I'm struggling with the last three pages as well. NATS have really pushed the narative that you can apply and be successful even without a background in aviation or any prior knowledge though so we've got a shot :)

I was speaking to my interviewer who said he also didn't know the basics when he first started and they teach you all of that in college so you shouldnt be too fussed

The Stage 3 booking slot opened for a few seconds literally and it was gone, this morning.

ktailor392 8th September 2024 16:39

Hello,

Does anyone know how long it takes to hear back after stage three? Ive been waiting a couple days now but its not been a week yet.

Azelas 9th September 2024 01:00

It should be within 14 days that you hear back after stage 3. For me it was 3 days later. I wouldn't take the amount of time as any indication of a pass or failure so just be patient and keep your fingers crossed

Kecko 26th September 2024 16:52

Anyone who got invited to stage 3 in September still waiting for a slot? I found out on the 11th of September that I had made it to stage 3 but haven't been able to book anything yet. Keeps saying slots are not available.
