Jobs at the City

At the risk of being accused of advertising in this weeks Flight Int. Belfast City are lokking for controllers. Any takers? Now form an orderly queue!

2 sheds 6th July 2004 19:31

As the expression goes, "... and your point is..?"

Standard Noise 7th July 2004 00:22

"lokking for atco's", did the union rep ask for that in the last T&C's meeting. ;)

Mind you, it would be nice to have a third of the workload for the same shiny shekels. Unless you're a Sup in which case it's "name your price", isn't it??:E :ok:

Tower Ranger 7th July 2004 17:44

Standard ,
maybe you should apply . There have been some massive improvements since you left . Well, we`ve had three new chairs , a cloud base recorder and ...... er....did I mention the new chairs!!

Standard Noise 7th July 2004 18:03

Tell you what TR, I might be tempted, the chairs here don't half hurt your bum on nights. And I don't get a fry on a Sunday morning! Still, at least the trouble'n'strife recognises me now!;)

But you never know, I might just call my good buddy Stevie P over at HR.

PS I hear you've got a nice short form to fill in after you've trained a new monkey for 20 minutes, speaking of which, give the chimp a banana on me.:ok:

viaEGLL 7th July 2004 18:13

Now the important part whats the money like??:O :O :O

Standard Noise 8th July 2004 09:01

Decent enough considering it's not too busy. But unless BCA management have had a change of heart, which is highly unlikely, there is a clause in the contract which states that "employees will work reasonable overtime within the needs of the business" (do excuse me if I've got a word or two wrong there, but that's the general jist of things). All of which means that you can't really refuse to stay for late evening extensions which can be a bit of a pain where your private life is concerned.

Still, they're a great bunch of guys (in ATC) to work with and I had a grand time working there, I mean, how many places are there in our game where you can go to work and read 5 or 6 papers on a Sunday morning and pack down an Ulster fry fit for two (lovingly cooked by the Badger) without being bothered by pilots!?:ok:

Tower Ranger 9th July 2004 14:46

ViaLL, unfortunately its not the money that is the important part. If two of you`re mates asked you to drive their cars to Nice who`s would you chose, the one that offered you £1000 to deliver his Porsche 911 turbo or the one who scraped together £1200 to drop off his Austin Allegro? Thought so!!
Standard , by the time you`ve filled in the boxes you`ve forgotten why you were filling them in in the first place!

Standard Noise 10th July 2004 14:51

TR - I take it the training bonus isn't worth it any more then. Still, look on the bright side, you'll be able to sue for repetitive strain injury soon!

Hang on a minute, Porsches....Nice.... you ARE getting paid too much TR!!!;)

surface wind 14th July 2004 08:34

TR, at least the training will be easy ...... DUFFY 3, isn't it!!!!! :p :p

Tower Ranger 14th July 2004 18:14

SW Not at all. The days of Duffy three for a whole shift have long gone!! Well almost!!

eastern wiseguy 14th July 2004 18:46

I haven't gone away you know!!:E

Caledonian 14th July 2004 19:25

any ATSA jobs ever go at the city or muckamore?? would love to work over there again!

surface wind 16th July 2004 10:30

Ah Eastern Wiseguy, we all know who you are now......didn't Gerry Adams say that a while back:ok: :ok:

Hope you're keeping well.....

SW

eastern wiseguy 16th July 2004 12:19

Thanks SW ...nice to see you have electric!!! glad to see you are back online!!

Tower Ranger 29th August 2004 14:23

And the lucky winner is................ erm...............
Well, nobody actually!
It seems nobody wants to come work with us, can`t think why. Did I not mention we got three new chairs this year(well, new to us) and just this week a new table(newish)!!

Standard Noise 31st August 2004 16:36

Well TR, it must be official, I'm irreplaceable!:} :ok: :}

Tower Ranger 1st September 2004 21:13

Now Standard, You know we could never replace you! The main reason being we got rid of all the chairs that said " max weight three persons" !! Only jokin big man. It`s almost six years since we employed a fully rated Atco and we`ve taken on eight in that time.

Standard Noise 2nd September 2004 07:20

And soon you'll have another to replace. Oh dear, maybe the reputation of the bad airport management and dreadful treatment of staff have got round on the grapevine, I do often wonder how these things happen in this day and age.:ok: :E

Tower Ranger 30th August 2005 09:54

Well one year on and it`s back to the drawing board again!
Another add in flight so once again form an orderly queue, women and children first!!

eastern wiseguy 30th August 2005 10:52

Does this mean YOU have gotten yourself a new job? Whats all this I hear about looking for property near Antrim:E :E ?

Tower Ranger 31st August 2005 22:15

Eastern, leave the City, Moi? Surely you can`t be serious?
I`d lose my ESP rating for Helicopter avoidance!! May the Force be with you, oh I forgot you`ve got SSR, Doh!

cdb 15th October 2005 21:22

Heh, have the crowds beaten a path to your doorstep then? Any applicants at all?

Tower Ranger 16th October 2005 10:40

Crowds? Hardly!!

In a strange case of deja vu the job offer went out but it wasn`t accepted. So yet again its back to the drawing board or settle for someone with no validations. Answers on a postcard!

niknak 16th October 2005 18:12

Who in their right mind want's to relocate to Belfast?

A city where sectarian violence continues to thrive despite what anyone says, and until the moronic bigots on both sides let their imbocilic prejudices continue, leave the past in the past, which is very unlikely, it will always be a place to avoid.

Stupid question perhaps, but I know you've trained your own in the past, so what's happened to that scheme?
The majority of those have been perfectly competent, (in fact better than that - they were very good), and passed the courses, so is it that difficult for unit management to fathom that this is the way to go?

Tower Ranger 17th October 2005 08:49

Nik Nak

I see from your previous posts, almost 1200, that you have a wide and in depth knowledge and understanding of many aspects affecting ATC and aviation in general. So, you can imagine how refreshing it has been to discover that you know absolutely f--k all squared about Belfast.

Have a nice day y`all.

away from home 17th October 2005 11:30

Nik Nak

I think you should think before you post again on Belfast. Bit unnecessary to be quite so derogatory about the city!

BFS/BHD 17th October 2005 14:14

Done my work ex in ATC in the city last year and had a great time.

Looking to get every friday for 10 weeks after christmas for this years work ex.:D

Sans Anoraque 17th October 2005 15:54

Who in their right mind want's to relocate to Belfast?
I did. And it's a top Town.

And Nik Nak I have to say, that there are almost as many good pubs here as you have stupid opinions.

Sans Anoraque from Shaftesbury Square.

wingman863 17th October 2005 16:23

Bits of Belfast are best consigned to biological weapons testing I do admit, but there are also vast swathes of it which are as nice as any of the posher parts of London, Manchester etc. It may be that protestants and catholics do not get on wonderfully at times but we have the lowest crime rates in the UK as far as I know.

Move to most other cities in the UK and its white people fighting with asian people or indeed any group fighting with anyone else who is "different" from them. I personally feel much more "at risk" when in the center of London or Manchester than I do in Belfast.

(the fact i'm carrying an M16 is irrelavant).:D

niknak 18th October 2005 18:44

I suppose I should apologise, but I'm not going to.

My comments are from first hand experience, and whilst I agree that Belfast is probably no worse in some respects than other major UK cities, it does have much more than it's fair share of bigotry.

Many thanks to the 2 people (or possibly the same person) who PM'd me with abuse and overtly threatening messages, I am not remotely worried or concerned about your opinions.

Nuff said, I'll shut up now.

escapedATCO 7th November 2005 20:14

Some people can't be replaced!!!

About time TR joined old Eastern in Antrim.
Wonder why City can't even recruit from stroke city, "no money, poor moral" surely not.

BEWARE THE HUNTER!!!!
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!:ouch:

eastern wiseguy 7th November 2005 22:04

TR joined old Eastern

less of the old!!! Anyways I hear you have ALMOST gotten the replacement! Nice lad too ...

ATCO1979 8th November 2005 16:53

What's the shift pattern at EGAC? 6 and 3?

escapedATCO 8th November 2005 18:14

Well done Aldergrover joins the City!! Good luck to him.
Did Eastern(he's hardly a baby now) arrange the transfer fee or is it a short term loan?
Ad-Hoc rostering at the City with fixed roster shortly I believe. Possiblity of losing approach function still a reality. Good people work in ATC with exceptions.

Now the HUNTER has his feed can he be happy!!!
EXEGAA be strong!!

Standard Noise 10th November 2005 22:46

Hey there City Buddies, I hear you're being lined up for the old "Hotel California" just like us'uns have been.
Well, all I can say is don't count on the b*****ds automatically offering you all contracts!:ok:

Tower Ranger 24th July 2006 22:05

Well,
this is now becoming such an annual event that the parades commision will have to approve the interview dates!! So as is traditional form an orderly queue, all valid Atco`s to the front! Good luck!

Standard Noise 26th July 2006 06:14

A big birdie tells me that 2 people have failed to validate and OJTIs are handing in their tickets in disgust, or so the grapevine would have it. What on earth is going on?
Either someone is arseing up on the recruitment side, the training plan bears no relation to what is required of trainees or things have got so bad that the place just ain't attracting the calibre of ATCOs it used to. Even we haven't had 2 failures in the last 4 years...........and we're busy!

This is shocking, I think we need an official statement. We must get to the bottom of this mess. The people want the truth, heads should roll!
T'weren't like that in my day.........mutter, mutter.......

Tower Ranger 26th July 2006 15:05

Hey Standard, long time old boy!

You`ve probably got close to hitting a few nails on the head there but you understand that I couldn`t possibly comment.
Anyway why would an OJTI`s opinion matter, i`ve only got sixteen years experience and had the audacity to Control at other places. As you and I both know that doesn`t count because nowhere else really exists and Belfast City is the centre of some peoples known universe.
Maybe this time it will be different and the Atco`s will actually be asked to give an opinion as to where the problems lie because they know better than anyone. Unfortunately I doubt it though as its all too obvious that there is no desire to fix the problems. :ugh:
