Thinking about applying to GCAA??
Here's the current numbers.
52925AED/month 22 Shifts of leave per year. 12 of which must be used consecutively. Recently reduced from 34. No Schooling on top. The above number includes a small amount of Housing allowance that is NOT paid in advance. Decent to Good healthcare included. |
Anyone who thinks that amount of leave is acceptable has never worked in the middle east.
That's a deal-breaker, regardless of issues with rental assistance, school fees or salary. |
Thinking about applying to GCAA??
Sounds ok for a single person

You are insane if you even consider leaving a secure position to work at the Abu Dhabi ACC. No pay rise for the foreseeable future. Rising school fees and rents. A 'contract' not worth the paper it is written on. Morale in the toilet.
|
So what is the percentage cut in annual leave?
Sounds like a deal breaker to even the most insane person. |
Percentage...
The percentage cut in leave is 35%! We all have contracts with our old leave allowance but obviously they were printed on toilet paper as that's how they have been treated.
The older fellas had contracts before which had housing allowance on and these too were replaced one day without requiring a signature. The guys that have just arrived having agreed to certain benefits now face training for a job with a month less leave than they agreed too. The salary is next to go with senior management looking to 'cheaper' nationalities to fill positions… Its been going downhill for a while here and has just run off the cliff edge… Will get much worse this year as everyone leaves and can't find quality replacements! You have been warned….:= |
There is about to be a massive exodus, 22 leave days, they have got to be kidding!
|
So it means 22 "calendar" days? Or is there a possibility of 6 on-4 off formula, meaning you also get the 4 days when taking a 6 day leave?
|
Well, if someone gets something else that he had on his contract and does nothing with this, then how things can go better?
As far as I know, the Gulf does not offer a regular job with terms&conditions that are subject to regular negotiations between the unions and employer. At the Middle East you sign up for a defined period of time on a specific T&C that you agree upon. If they break it at the very beginning, why don't you leave? |
If they break it at the very beginning, why don't you leave? On the other hand, the providers are like oil tankers- they take a long time to turn around. By the time they piss the staff off enough that they become short staffed (staff do leave over time, when pushed), maybe 18 months pass before they realise something has to be done, then the time taken to actually do it. It's a 2 to 5-year cycle. Lessons forgotten (and fairly recently so, in this case) have to be learned again. Maybe even learned the first time? :hmm: |
Let's not forget that regulations state we have to take a period of 2 cycles of leave once a year. 12 days of your leave gone! 10 days left for the remaining 11 months. Great!
|
Start applying elsewhere before everyone else does I'd say. Beat the rush.
|
Come on Muscat. Pay your controllers slightly more then the cheaper rents and less oppressive regime will look even more attractive!!
|
So what happened with that vacation? Any news on that? Is it true that those missing 12 days will be considered as "compensation" days?
|
Ferris
Maybe even learned the first time? :ok: |
How about applying for a job at quatar aeronautical college?
How is their ATC training structured and do they need coaches? Can I get any info here? |
Mamluk,
We were told that there was a verbal agreement with HR that these days would be compensation days. All it needed was signing off. Well over a week ago now and now it's talk again of 22 days being final. No one knows anything because management doesn't communicate anything. |
Just clarifying is this GAL or GCAA? Or are they the same thing?
|
GAL and GCAA are different organisations. GCAA runs the ACC for the UAE, GAL have contracts at Abu Dhabi airports, including Al Ain and Al Bateen I think they have RAK.
