Air traffic controllers are under so much pressure to maximise the number of landings that passengers' safety is at risk, the BBC has been told.

Whilst there may be pressure on the system to maintain a consistent landing rate in most weather conditions (save fog and extreme weather), we are all professional controllers, whether at Heathrow or any other major International Airport. There will be the occasional occurence somewhere in the world, like that mentioned, which may occur for any number of reasons. To suggest that the controller deliberately put the aircraft into confliction is somewhat contentious.
The whistleblower does little to support his ex profession with this sort of antic. I would find it hard to believe that his 27 year career was without incident. Whilst he may have concerns or issues, I feel it is naive and inappropriate to tar his ex colleagues in this manner. After all it is the nature of the beast that the beloved press will over dramatise, sensationalise and speculate.

2.5 miles, I agree with everything that you said except the bit about "Andrew" being a whistle blower. That implies that the comapny were trying to hide something. In this case that just is not correct :)

"Whistleblower" was the term used by the BBC in the article, not necessarily my choice of words, too many letters. The company haven't tried to hide anything, the report in question has been disseminated internally and the regulator would certainly be aware of its findings. :)

P.S. "Andrew" was reportedly interviewed on radio last night. Two distinct hopes arise;
a) NATS be afforded equal opportunity to respond, should they choose.
b)That this guy isn't trying to line himself up as an industry expert/spokeperson!!!!:(

should be made to give his lump sum pension back for being a loser and talking rubbish
