Nope, not really. All I know is they're taking applicants in bunches. You might be in the next one.

Spacial test is my worry. How wsd it? It was making cubes , trisngles, cones etc or something different.

pineappledaz 1st Oct 2014 20:13

I would say it would come down to $$$ and staff time.

The online tests would be a good indicator if people are able to complete the training and be successful on the job. It probably costs a lot more $ to conduct a phone interview. So bumping up the order of the OPQ would most likely cut down the number of phone interviews.

I agree with you on the test though

stevep64 2nd Oct 2014 02:13

3 years ago, when I went through the selection process, they didn't even have the OPQ.

Even getting through the whole process and getting onto a course is no guarantee that you'll complete the training.

Hi All,

this is my first post. Thanks heaps for everyone posting here and giving heaps of insight into their own experience with the application process at ASA. I am trying to get into the ASA ATC in training program and I believe most of you are talking about that here and not the graduate program. I want to do well in the psychometric assessment, but have no clue how it is. I have done few for some other jobs, but was told by a friend this one is alot harder for the ATC. Some of you, who have scored good and passed the test, what was the test like? What sort of preparation did you go through? What type of a score do you need to advance to the next stage? Can you guys please give me some tips on the psychometric assessment? Thanks alot guys.

pineappledaz 8th Oct 2014 10:02

McDonnell, try the SHL online practice tests or visit your local library for some tests. After you apply, ASA tell you what tests you have to do.

Other than trying out the tests, there isn't any real prep you can do. Either you can do the tests or you can't. That is why ATC is so selective.

Howdy, to be honest when i completed the online testing about 2 years ago i had no idea what to expect. The only thing i would recommend is having a nice quiet space to do it in, do the practice test so you know what your trying to achieve in the task. Have a calculator handy I think you still require it. And just do your best and answer the questions how you believe they should be answered not what type of answer they are looking for.

McDonnell 8th Oct 2014 12:04

Thanks slscrockatt and pineappledaz for your comments. what sort of a score do you need to get if you are to have a chance of getting to the next stage?

SoontobeinMelbourne 15th Oct 2014 00:51

Test pass rate

McDonnell, they don't publish the pass score so noone will be able to answer that for you. But put it this way, there weren't too many people offered a spot at the testing day, so the score to pass the exams must be set pretty high.

What to expect during initial telephone interview

I've made it through to the 15 min telephone interview (this Friday).

I'd be grateful if anyone is able to let me know what to expect.

My preference is for Tower - what is the likelihood of ending up at either Camden, Bankstown or Sydney immediately after training?

Cheers

shortmacc 15th Oct 2014 23:36

Hey TailWheelBoy,

It is just a short phone interview and they will ask you some behavioral based questions. When I did mine I found that there was nothing I could really do to prepare for it.

Just make sure you are in quiet place and you don't sound like a rambling fool on the phone ;)

Not sure about the tower preferences. You should be prepared to be posted to any of the towers though.

Good luck!

TailWheelBoy 16th Oct 2014 05:16

Thanks shortmacc

Where did you do your training and what stream did you choose?

What was it like?

Cheers

pineappledaz 16th Oct 2014 05:25

Tailwheel when did you complete your online testing?

TailWheelBoy 16th Oct 2014 06:12

Timing

My timing is as follows:

29 Aug: submitted application
23 Sep: invited to complete online testing
26 Sep: completed online testing
1 Oct: invited to complete online OPG
3 Oct: completed online OPG
14 Oct: invited to telephone interview

Cheers

bb1981 17th Oct 2014 06:28

So had my telephone interview today. Wasn't expecting the behavioural questions (or at least so many of them) at this stage. Thought this first interview would be more about ascertaining what I knew about the job etc... But, I survived it, bumbled my way through (I hate interviews with a passion!). Logged in to check my status and it has changed to "on hold for upcoming assessment centre" which I hope is good news :)

nervous

Hey Guys,

Firstly I just wanted to thank everyone for the information provided in this forum, very helpful during the application process.

I completed my assessment day last week in Brisbane and my status has changed over to referee details. On the day I was told in the interview that we would likely receive feedback by the end of this week however I have heard nothing and my referees haven't been contacted.

I was just wondering if anyone who had recently been through the process knew the time frame from referee details being requested to hearing some feedback, the suspense is killing me.

Good luck to everyone going through the process atm.
