sept 6th course

I am starting my course in Sept, just wanted to speak to anyone else who is.

mps12 15th Jul 2004 09:52

Hello,

WOW - do you mean 6th September this year?! Havent you just had your medical - think you had it day before me?!

Just got my class 2 through today, and hopefully class 1 next week! Did you expect to be starting so quick!

Well Done:ok:

BEXIL160 15th Jul 2004 10:26

Well Done Shipmate, you made it!:O ......

Seems a long time ago that we first corresponded, and I am very glad that it all worked out for you.

Now the work begins of course. At times it will seem very difficult, disheartening and you will probably feel like v bad. KEEP ON GOING, apply yourself and you'll do okay. There will be better days and they can be FUN. Best of all, the end is very definitely worth it:ok:

Best of luck, as ever

rgds BEX

P.S. You get the bottom bunk in the junior rates mess. (no channge there then;) )

aaaabbbbcccc1111 15th Jul 2004 11:11

Cheers.

Yes it has been a long journey, and I thank you and others who have helped me along the way. I know sometimes people get frusrated with us "wannabees" asking the same old questions, week after week. So it is very kind that there are people like you who are always willing to help.

I start the course in a couple of months with a little fear but the bags loads of confidence that got me in this position in the first place. Confidence that you and others helped install.

tired-flyboy 15th Jul 2004 12:39

Got to add my congrats - and a questions or two if i may.

1. Did you get the nod through snail mail or e-mail??

2. What info did you get in your pack about course duration/ accomodation etc?

did the med on 1/07 so should be (you never know) on the same course!

thanks for any info

:ok:

aaaabbbbcccc1111 15th Jul 2004 13:02

I believe I got on course due to a cancellation, I have no info at present except I am on the course. I have a load to sort out in such a small space of time, but I snapped it up as soon as I was offered it. Hopefully mate you will get yours very soon.

mps12 15th Jul 2004 13:22

Wow - you must be so chuffed!! (Im jealous!!:E )

Hope it goes well for you, I really cant wait to start, so fingers crossed will hear soon!

Best of luck:ok:

tired-flyboy 15th Jul 2004 13:40

bmb7jiw 20th Jul 2004 09:33

Hi,
Im also on the September 6th course, so i'll see you there!!!

James

tired-flyboy 20th Jul 2004 10:12

OK i take it back,

apparently they have increased the size of the course starting on the 6th Sept....

Sorry for doubting!

:ok:

bmb7jiw 20th Jul 2004 10:27

I wonder how many extra people will be on the course and why they have made it larger? Did HR tell you this?

James

Someone_Else 20th Jul 2004 10:31

Looks like I am going to be on it, got a call this morning..subject to references though which HR haven't got yet.

Eeek...a bit in shock from it all though - to go from October 05 to September 04! :D

Regards

Craig

Phantom99 20th Jul 2004 11:57

Hi,

From what I have heard there was always the intention to have 30 people on the Sept course, however perhaps they were waiting to see how course 200 coped with the new system before commiting to the larger course (there are 16 on 200)

Inverted81 20th Jul 2004 13:16

Hi guys... you all gettin called in then? is it that people are quitting or there are extra spaces??? hmmm.. waitin for medical certificates then maybe i'll get a call perhaps???? i've only just started a new job as well....
lets wait and see.... very strange tho ( but very good news)! :D
C

tired-flyboy 20th Jul 2004 21:33

With a gleeful smile :O

i can also say that i will be on the sep 6th course! (just need to phone HR to confirm!)

incase your interested i was told today the following durations (subject to change)

6 mths for London Airports
9 mths for Other Airports
15 mths for Area course

Dave_rowe 21st Jul 2004 07:44

Hi

Has anyone who is on the Sept course been sent any details of books or anything they need. Isn't likely I'll be starting for a while but wouldn't mind a head start!

Thanks
Dave

sla 21st Jul 2004 08:03

tired fly-boy

you mentioned durations for the courses, does this mean that each course is specialist from the start? so might the september course be just for other airports for example? and would you find out in advance. Personally I'm hoping to work at Swanwick in the end as I live down the road!!! and I'm not quite sure I understand how they decide who goes where.

I'm definately not going to be on the September course anyway, I haven't even got a date for my medical yet, I was told June next year earliest for starting - what were you September people told to expect? It seems surprisingly positive for some people. Hope you all get on well.:ok:

Someone_Else 21st Jul 2004 08:25

Sla - In answer to your question, I was told at my interview on May 10th to expect an Oct 2005 start. Then on my letter I was told "sometime in 2005"

And then I received the call yesterday to say they had some places left in September.

My understanding of the courses is the everyone will start together on a 12 week general course before being filtered onto the courses described by TF.

bmb7jiw 21st Jul 2004 09:10

oooooohhhhh! Im getting so excited about this now!

When I had my medical they said that it would probably be more like March or June next year before I was able to start.

Does anybody have any idea what positions they are trying to fill from the September course? Im really interested in area too.

James

tired-flyboy 21st Jul 2004 09:30

Sla

I know as much as everyone else i'm afraid, i only got the durations after speaking to HR but didn't get a chance to really find out how they select the course you go on.

If i had the choice i'd go area but would want to go to ScOACC rather than Southampton.

Like everybody else i was told 2005 - at my interview (in Feb) i was told Jan or Mar 05 so like Someone_Else bit of a shock to get an offer of a place in Sep.

Now i need to worry about getting digs!

Ah well at least something has happened which is good!!!!

:ok:

Phantom99 21st Jul 2004 18:25

Sorry for butting in (again!),

Recent precedence with new courses has been that the entire course is selected for a particular course...I think the people just off for OJT after finishing the (old) ADC2 are all destined for London Airports, with the course just started from what I can remember all Approach, but not necessarily London.

tired-flyboy 21st Jul 2004 21:48

so by phantoms rational we should all be on the area course?!?

OK by me :ok:

H.M.Murdock 22nd Jul 2004 21:30

Hi,

I will be on the September 6th course so look forward to seeing you all there. I was given a place on the October 04 which got moved to December and then had a call at the end of May to see if I wanted September.

To be honest it still hasn't sunk in......

Nick

Dave_rowe 23rd Jul 2004 09:21

Hi

Can anyone tell me how long the medical takes?

I think I'm going to fly from manchester so will need to know approximate times.

Thanks
Dave

bmb7jiw 23rd Jul 2004 09:39

Give 2 hours for it. It wont take that long but it gives you some leeway in case there are any problems.
I got the 10:50 flight from MAN for my 1400 medical, and came back on the 1705 flight. I had plenty of time

James

Phantom99 23rd Jul 2004 17:34

Sorry but my info was slightly incorrect - course 200 (the first intro course) have been told that a number of them are destined for area, although most will still be ADC/APP.

bmb7jiw 27th Jul 2004 12:26

Has anybody who has got a late entry onto the September 6th course received their contracts or any other information from the college or NATs yet?
Im going to go down and look into accomodation in a few weeks and I dont want to sign any rental contracts before I have signed my NATs contract!!!!

tired-flyboy 27th Jul 2004 13:13

nothing yet - but hopefully sometime this week!

Thinking about the B&B option till i get down there!

Most of the ones i've been looking at require a months deposit - only prob is the uni's go back soon after we get there so the student accomodation may go pretty quickly!

:ok:

bmb7jiw 27th Jul 2004 13:36

Yeah they all want a deposit/bond equivalent to a months rent unfortunately. My girlfriend is moving down with me and we want to get it all sorted quickly so when the college starts I can concentrate on studying and not looking for somewhere to live!!

James

tired-flyboy 27th Jul 2004 13:41

If only it were that easy!

Need to sell the house etc so i'll be travelling at the weekends!

Found out on one of these threads that the going take home is about £960 pcm (hope that doesn't include the living allowance!)

and does anybody know what the get you home rate is (round trip of nearly 1000miles so heres hoping its about 20p a mile!)

lol

see you there James

:ok:

bmb7jiw 27th Jul 2004 14:03

Apparently its 16.4p a mile for the travel expenses. So that works out at an extra grand onto a years salary for me as its a 500 mile round trip!!!
That figure wont include the living allowance!! Im glad thats not taxed!

tired-flyboy 27th Jul 2004 14:23

great so thats about £150 that'll pay for 2 trips home on FlyBe so no need to sell the house yet!

yippeee!!!

:ok:

tired-flyboy 30th Jul 2004 08:26

CONTRACT and OTHER INFO

Hi all

Has anyone who is on the 6th Sep course recieved any info from the college about the course?

And more to the point has anyone got an up to date accomodation list that they can send me.

I'm travelling to bournemouth in Aug and would like to have a look at the accomodation (B&B) before i stay there at the start of the course!

TIA guys

:ok:

Someone_Else 30th Jul 2004 08:47

Hi All,

I've received my contract a couple of days ago.

To quote the contract on travel " You will be reimbursed expenditure at standard class rail using young person rail cards or running cost rate fo the use of a private car.............If undertaking long journeys you may choose to travel by air but reimbursesment will be limited to the surface costs of travel as detailed above"

It does not mention the equivlant pence per mile.

With regards to the course, the offer letter stated that the college will send out more information.

And incase you wondered...it's course 201.

Cheers

Craig

bmb7jiw 30th Jul 2004 09:29

Apparently my security questionnaire hasnt come back to NATs yet and that is whats holding up my contract being sent out. I sent it in about 5/6 weeks ago so Im not too sure why its taking so long?
I dont really want to sign a rental agreement until I have signed my NATs contract just in case something happens, but I do need to think about finding somewhere to live in Bournemouth!
How many others are still waiting for contracts who are on the September course?

James

tired-flyboy 30th Jul 2004 09:47

i don't remember doing a secrutiy form recently- was this after you got the nod after the second interview?

Saying that i may have signed one at the initial application stage :\ but i don't remember.

Apparently my references have still to be taken up and i am waiting for a cheque for expenses that i've still to be paid!

Ah well here's hoping !!

It's just that 6 weeks ain't very long to get everything done (and going on past records it def ain't enough time!!) lol:D
