Question TC Contingency

Does Terminal Control require a contingency , such as the Heathrow/Thames radar room , as part of its licence to operate.
If so what contingency is in place now , following the great flood?

The contingency for TC and that pesky "Great Flood" involves an ark to be built so many cubits long and so many cubits wide by some dude called Noah. And we could all happily enter 2 by 2 and float down to the sunny Swanwick..............................

Sorry, I wasn't going to be sarcastic this week!

Possibly the same contingency we will have when we get to NERC?

A 'little bird' told me that the new simulator (currently residing in the old ACR) can become fully operational at the 'flick of a switch'????

With the newly aquired water feature in the Sim there is now a real danger of the TC Ops room becoming flooded. I guess Mr Fish reckons that anything causing an evacuation from TC won't effect the SIM so all will be allright!

Ain't this just effin typical (not having a go at you Monkfish or Cpt Windsock) of NATS. Hey, Ive got and idea. Lets make it so we can flick the switch in the new sim to emulate the TCR.

As you point out Cpt, it's only in the room RIGHT NEXT DOOR!? I'm kind of hard pressed to think of a situation where TC would have to be evacuated, yet the Sim wouldn't (aside from the now famous water feature imparting an act of God) Duh!................

Undoubtably true so long as you did not want to talk to aircraft or see them on your radar.

The TC Sim has only simulated radar and the comms streches as far as the next room

I asked one of the engineers t'other day - said it wasn't possible to flick the switch even if the sim has better comms panels, cctvs etc.

Where will the contingency be when we're all one HAPPY family down on the South Coast? McNERC? Even with the police escort, I don't rate us getting there much inside 6 hours

The sim at NERC is capable of taking over live operations, in fact it has to.

One night shift every month the ops room is abandoned and we move into the TDU while the engineers load software updates. All at the flick of a switch....well lots of switches, lots of plugging and unplugging and running around with checklists on clipboards.....about 90 minutes worth in all.

How long would it take for Concorde to get from EGHI to EGPK?

Moot point about the TC sim, as the equipment hasn't been deemed to be up to operational standard.

Although, with the light levels in there, do they issue the ATSA's and sundry with factor 15 sunblock to go in? Damn bright.

Maybe that's what I was getting confused with?? Sorry if I led anyone up the garden path.

You're right about the light levels in the new sim though - the reflections on the radars are dreadful - although it is useful when people start creeping up behind!!
A request was made to turn the lights down the other day and we were told that it was a H&S requirement that the lights were so bright.
Infact, if you turn the lights down to anything other than 'blinding', the strip display cameras fail as the light levels are too low.

"They haven't thought it through, have they.........?"
