damaged a/c to EGCC

I heard with interest the story on the Cyprus to Manchester flight that was damaged by a hail storm this evening. My info is somewhat sketchy but having made the odd 'fam' flight in know that onboard weather radar is very accurate and was surprised by the inability to circum-navigate a front like this. Was this just very bad luck or was the flight trying to thred through some bad karma that got even badder?

Cool

Depending on just how severe the storm was, the hail can come out the top of the anvil and fall off to the side and not be part of the rain shaft at all.
