LHR delays due to low staffing levels

Got a delay the other day because of this. Annoying as it is. I was impressed with how the tower controller was able to utilise both runways to overcome the increased approach spacing due to the ground controller shortage.

The combination of the airfield works and these shortages is giving "airfield congestion" delays, that appear to be occuring more regularly.

Will they reduce once the works finish?

Cheers

It doesn't help that the local management refuse to offer overtime to staff at LHR-so much for looking after the customers eh???

Fadec, things are only going to get worse this year with regards to staffing levels.

No overtime only applies to ATCO staff, the only reason we've been able to carry on when things have been tight in the past is that both our assistant and lighting operator colleagues are offered overtime.

Airfield works....well, you want to know when they'll finish? Try 2010 when T5 is fully operational. All this WIP at the moment is all tied in with either the new tunnel from T2 to T5, our new tower over by T3, or resizing the taxiways for the A380. Apart from the works for our tower, the other bits will just start moving around the airfield.

The airfield delays will be reduced once management get their fingers out and actually make an attempt to staff the place at it's correct levels with appropriate staff. Until then, we're all going to be on here moaning.

Talking

"...appropriate staff"

Would you be hinting that some of your staff aren't appropriate..?

Someone at LL may be able to enlighten - are the recently advertised ATOM staff appropriate??? How much are they paid? More than those shifting the jets I bet.
