Iaa & Nats
Taken from the Guild of Air Traffic Control Officers quarterly publication Transmit (Winter 2002) re. NATS/GATCO meeting 12th Sept 2002. Subject:
Single Eurpoean Sky (SES)
NATS is consulting internally on this issue and continuing to work on influencing the EC and others on SES.
The main points made during discussions were:
* It seemed logical that the Irish Avaition Authority and NATS could be considered as a logical Functional Block of Airspace. However, the collaboration discussions with the IAA are at a very early stage, there are a number of challenges to overcome before going down that route.
Does this, yet again, raise questions about the liklihood of a new centre ever being built at Prestwick, or is paranoia getting the better of me?
Answers on a postcard pleeze to...

Shannon and Swanwick.
The organsication will be called Shanwick and the current Shanwick FIR will be extended to the east to the continental boundaries!!
Sure even the Scots can continue to support the local Rangers team.....Glanmire Rangers Gaelic Footbal Club.
Happy New Year.

Fish Food. There is a difference between being called a logical Functional Block of airspace ( i.e. compatible systems for data exchange) and chaps and chapesses sitting in one Ops room

Findo: OK, fair point, but seriously, can you expand upon what you understand as being a "logical Functional Block of Airspace", as your own definition, "compatible systems for data exchange", could apply to every single sector/centre within the Eurocontrol area, could it not?

P.S. DFC - we don't all support the team to which you refer. (Thankfully!).
